Headrest Speaker Radio Harness (94-97)
 

I'm looking for the aftermarket headrest speaker harness that clips into the vehicle harness and wires to an aftermarket radio's harness. Probably made by Metra or similar company. For 94-97.

The person who would have this would be someone that has installed an aftermarket radio but does not have headrest speakers installed.

And for the people that like to send "suggestions" of ways around this: I'd prefer not to splice into the vehicle harness, and I'd like to save $20 instead of buying a whole harness kit from Circuit City or Best Buy, especially when someone might have one laying around, and since I could put that towards gas. :)

what are you looking for exactly? the wire that goes up the seats?

n/m I think I understand... You're looking for an adaptor that clips into the HR wiring at the dash, and has 4 speaker leads on it? If that's the case, you need to man up and splice. You could have finished the work in less time than it takes to make a post.

But as I said already, I'd prefer not to splice. I'm MECP certified, it's not a matter of manning up to the job. With all of my cars I've ever had, if it has a well-working factory harness, that's what I want to connect it to.
BTW - I still need that under dash panel from you. :)

I got my harness at Walmart and it had the headrest wires on it. Are you looking for one that has a Miata female on one end and say Pioneer on the other? Good luck. Don't forget to put x-over caps on the headrest speakers. An aftermarket radio will toast them.

No, I'm looking for one that has a Miata female on one end and open wires on the other end. I already have the radio installed, so I just need that one harness and not the other for the radio and door speakers.
Don't need crossover caps in this instance. Pioneer head unit and Rockford Fosgate 3" speakers. :)

To be honest, I know I can go get the harness set, this is more to see if someone has it laying around. If not, off to the store I go.

I'll ask my buddy if he still has one laying around. I think I only paid $12. The Miata wasn't actually listed on the package. It was a connector listed for another car (and a ford ranger?) that fit. If your MECP then you already know a 3" (3.5"?) can't play low frequencies and your just wasting power sending it to the speaker causing distortion in the frequencies you want it to play. Most of the Pioneers have a nice high pass built in though. That's another reason I chose Pioneer for my Miata. If not, a capacitor works. :bigtu:

I don't want lows through my headrest speakers (these are made specifically for mids and highs). That is what the Alpine Type-R's are for in the door. Anyway, I've run the same setup, although with a lower model Pioneer head unit in my mom's '97 STO, and it sounds good sitting still and at higher speeds. However, with my Pioneer I can control what each individual speaker does, along with multiple tweeters, not that I'm using all that in my Miata, it can just do that though. lol I'm a bit of an audiophile, and even though I love the sound of the turbo, sometimes I want my music too.

And yeah, they are 3.5". At 1 am, my brain was toast. But thanks for checking, please let me know.

I'm an audio nut too. Mostly Classic Rock and Electronic. My biggest problem was bass. After 6 boxes I settled on a small slot port box for some old MTX blue thunder 8s (of all things). Amoung the speakers I tested were Infinity, Pioneer, and Cadence. I build my enclosures for them all. Tried bandpass, ported, and sealed. You'll have to show some pics of your 3.5s. I hope you didn't just mash them in there.

Wow, it's been forever since I've had MTXs. They were a part of my very first sound system. lol
I built a nice system for my last car and sound dragged it. I don't want much in the Miata at all. The Type-Rs in the doors hit hard enough to feel bass and produce the lows I want and I get my highs from Clearwater tweeters on the door panels.
As far as the 3.5s go, not mounted yet. I'm trying to make something similar to the "tubs" that hold the stock rectangular speakers, since these are round of course.
Mashing is the last resort when I get completely fed up of trying everything else. lol j/k
