NTB asap: 1.6 diff

Just baught a carrier ass. from olderguy approx a month ago, installed my kazz diff. drifted great. but last saturday night, had some problems and i'm guessing i'm gonna be needing a new diff ass. To tell it short. Axle shaft popped out. popped it back in. some fluid leaked. then at highway speeds heard loudest wine ever from the rear, just like it did approx a month ago. In need of a 1.6 open or viscous carrier ass. thanks

Dan

I'm telling you Dan....you need a 1.8 rear.

miatamania 01-01-2007 05:17 PM

^ +1

neogenesis2004 01-01-2007 05:18 PM

you can have mine if you install the 1.8 I have waiting for me.

drifting=1.8 rearend, u need what I got, rx7 clutch lsd and 1.8 rear.
My 1.6 diff (both of them) didn't last long drifitng.

jayc72 01-02-2007 12:25 AM

Why is a clutch type LSD better for drifting than a Torsen?

Just is.:gay:

Ah more super valuable information.

kotomile 01-02-2007 02:42 AM

Doesn't a Torsen only work when both wheels have traction? IE at a dragstrip the torsen would do a pegleg burnout but then hook up both wheels at the launch? If I'm recalling that correctly, well then, there you go.

magnamx-5 01-02-2007 07:12 AM

no an open works like that or a vicouse wich doesnt produce near the lock up of a torsen 20-30% vs 40-60% if my memory serves me correctly but a rx7 Lsd can also be used or other stronger lsd with more lock-up

Sorry it happened. If I'd known you were drifting with a 1.6, I wouldn't have sold it to you.:sadwavey: You are going to keep throwing your money away if you don't go to a 1.8.

TurboTim 01-02-2007 12:35 PM

Or you can throw your money towards me. I have the same diff as olderguy available, make an offer.

Well the rx is rebuildable which is nice, and ya your gonna say the torsen doesn't need to be but if it were to break you'd b sol.

The clutch type also has varying lock up settings dependaing on how you want it to feel.

Also like previously mention the torsen acts like an open diff if one tire is in the air or looses traction (for an instant)

And apparently (what I've heard) is that torsen actually act more like opn diffs when in a drift than lsd's..

Al Hounos 01-02-2007 03:52 PM

Torsens are more fragile, apparently. And the RX7 can have a really stiff lock up if you want it to.

Update!!!

A friend at work pulled the diff out and appart in approx 45 min, at first seemed liked carrier bearing were shot, hence stub shafts having play. Fluid was nothing but metal. Pulled the 3rd memeber out. to find the part on the kazz diff that the carrier bearing is pressed onto was broken... so i have to see if i can find some replacement parts for my kazz diff. the ring and pinion are ok!!!! for now!!!!

Braineack 01-02-2007 07:15 PM

silly guy....im glad I got to drive it before it broke....(no i didnt break it)....but it makes me want a real LSD BAD!
