Teflon cap for end of Clutch slave piston
I have a squeak that I've tried a few different greases, and low friction tape, to eliminate.
Some people have put o-rings, but I'd like a machined teflon cap. Any leads on where to contact for this? |
There's a place in KC I've brought pizza and pie crust forms to before for teflon coating.
It's called LPF coatings, there should be places near you that can do the same. It was not cheap. Teflon is a bitch of a material, it's brittle and not very machinable, almost like compressed talc powder. You aren't getting a durable cap made that will fit, not for anything reasonable. |
Hm. Should I be looking at a different material? Like some sort of poly or rubber cap?
|
Are you talking about a cap to go between the pushrod and piston 'cup' (inside the rubber boot) or between the pushrod and fork?
Search for 'teflon rod' on McMasters. I've only had experience with teflon sheets, but it might be too soft and has a tendency to 'creep'. Delrin or nyloil are other options. Supply the material/drawing (or slave) and I should be able to make one for you on the lathe (pending free time...). --Ferdi |
Working with Ferdi for a solution,
Thanks everyone! |
Screw Teflon. Go with Kynar.
|
^will do, thanks!
|
Ferdi, I'd be in for a nyloil bushing or 4. Let me know how I can help.
|
Ferdi has finished a cap in each of four materials for me to try out.
They look fantastic, I can't wait to be squeak free! I'll post the picture when i get home. |
I am in for several of them.
|
I don't know if he made any extras, but I'm only receiving one of each material.
Ferdi was saying he won't be taking any side machining jobs for awhile, but just try contacting him anyways. |
