Default T3 .48 turbine housing in good shape

Rafa needs a .48 turbine housing for his T3 to increase his spool. He's currently running a .63 and wants to lower his peak boost RPM.

If you have a .48 housing in good shape; flat flanges, no stuck studs or stripped out holes, no serious cracks, then post up if you're willing to sell it off.

Can someone at least point me to where I can buy a new one?

Thanks

Rafa - do you what stage (size) the wheel is on your turbo? That'll make sure you get the correct housing. If you have a stage1 and the popular 5-bolt dp flange pattern (what came on most OE t3 turbos) you should be able to find one on turbo ford, saab or volvo at a salvage yard.

Brainy might be interested in a trade if it's stage1? If it's a stage3, I'd be interested in it. - rob

No clue Rob. I'll find out what I have and get back to you. I like the info on the Ford, saab or volvo (specially the one on the Volvo because those can be indeed found locally pretty easily).

This is from an email Mike sent me when I bought it:

"The turbo is a T3 (Compressor side and Turbine Side). Corky just installed a T04E Compressor wheel in there. Which makes it act kind of like a T3 Super 60, just a little hotter. I think it would peak out around 350whp. But, it works in it's peak efficiency island from 240whp to 310whp."

Hope that helps.

BTW, thanks!

I'll see if I can measure tomorrow. I'm not complaining about the turbo at all. I just find it spools a little late on the RPM band with a stock engine.

Does this mean I'm going to have to change the wheel too?

About the "hang on" part; I took out the EBC recently and (for a change ) the guys at the shop left the WG open; the turbo was going up to 20psi but only after 5,000 RPM! It could get addicting!

That turbine looks bigger than a stage1. There are several four bolt SPA t3 48AR turbine housings on eBay - all stage1. You need to measure first, then shop.

IMO swapping to a .48AR isn't going to make the difference you're looking for- based on what (I think) you want. It might move your powerband back a few hundred rpm.

Thanks.

About "moving my powerband a few hundred RPM"; that is what I'm looking for. It's currently spooling at about 4,200 RPM but I want to see it at 3700 RPM.

How about this?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m32

Thanks

That is a horrible turbo you posted a link to Rafa, definitely not a good idea. First of all it is a chinese knock-off. It is also a T25 footprint which would require a new manifold and downpipe. You would also need different routed intercooler plumbing due to the flanged outlet. That is not a good option for turbo swaps.

I had no idea you had that model of turbine. I was assuming you had a simple 5 bolt stage 1 turbine assembly but that turbo you have is pretty awesome.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've always had a sense of how good that turbo is but as I keep stating: I will not go over 300whp in this car even if I build my engine one day. That is a fact.

I've already been in contact with the local track authorities because I do want to take it for a few laps every once in awhile and for me in the end is a combination of HP and handling; no drag strip planned here. Late spooling = not good for the local track.

BTW Chad, I found a local mechanic who specializes in fixing turbos and he told me there are housings I can get locally. We'll see.

Thanks for the help Chad. I'll let you know how this ends up. I have to see whether this guy knows what he's doing cause I sure don't!

Rafa you can also have a machine shop overbore a stage1 turbine housing to fit your turbine wheel. Just need to make sure it bolts up to your downpipe or you have another solution.

Here's a four bolt .48 AR housing- just need to have a machinist cut it for your turbine wheel IF it's not big enough.
