WTB: .48 Turbine T3 turbo
So, I think my turbo is eating itself... it sounds like I have some metal on metal action going on in there. Since it's my daily driver I unfortunately have to drive it to work regardless, and will have to pull the turbo over the weekend to survey the damage.
I need to have a spare/better turbo around to prevent downtime. Turbo must have the following: 1) minimal shaft play, or if it needs rebuild a price that reflects it 2) .48 turbine 3) 50 or better trim T3 compressor. I'd like a 60 trim t3 or a T04E compressor, again open to options. 4) Standard T3 turbine inlet 5) 5 bolt internal wastegate outlet flange 6) 2" compressor outlet nozzle (to match my piping) If any of these terms are not met post anyways... I might be able to use it. I've already seen the 60 trim .63 AR in the other thread... not really interested in a .63 as it will increase lag and I'm not going to push enough power to justify it (yet). |
just an fyi - there's more than one kind of 5-bolt t3 turbine flange pattern. I learned that the hard way.

Do they look drastically different or are they just a bit off? I can post a pic of my current pattern if that would help. |
A rebuild kit from Gpopshop would get there by friday i bet and you could do it yourself in an hour and a half having never done it before.

I've rebuilt several turbos... I know it isn't hard. The issue is that this sucker sounds like it is eating the impeller... so I'm likely going to need a new impeller/housing. At which point a used turbo is cheaper than replacing those components.
Heard that. I might have a core for you that you can rebuild that I would let go pretty cheap. Need to get off my ass and put my turbo together first though. The turbine housing has massive cracks around the turbine though. It's a 50 trim compressor. If you want just the chra and compressor assembly it would be a good replacement once rebuilt. Wheels are in good shape it seems. I'll let you know, but don't count on me right now.

keep in touch and let me know... any one else have a T3 lying around?
I think there are three five-bolt patterns for the turbine exit on a t3. I found this out when I bought a 5-bolt flange and it didn't fit my "mercedes" five-bolt exit. The most popular is referred to as a "ford" and I believe there is one more. The mercedes has larger spacing than the ford.
Mine is a saab unit which is the same as a ford and garrett standard 5 bolt from my understanding. Merc and chrysler have different patterns depending on year from what I can tell.
Congratulations- that's the one to have. By far the most popular.
I have an extra t3 in good condition I can sell, PM me for more details/pics. Probably identical to the one you already have too.
Do you need water cooling?
nope... have a fresh h2o chra here.
I just have a .48/.42 Saab turbo. no water. Is your compressor side tore up?

I still wouldn't mind having a spare around the house though. |
