WTB Bent old Rods
 

I am looking for some old bent rods out peoples dead motors. I want to make a lamp out of old rods. I am willing to pay shipping and maybe a few bucks more.

A NYC artist I know makes candleholders out of cranks.

Well I am not a NYC artist, nor am I making a gay ass candle holder. I am making a badass lamp. Will have a fucked up 6ul as the base and rods going up to where the lightbulb will be held.

You gonna weld this together?

I have a set of stock rods not bent though. 20+shipping? lol

you can have my set of 4 unbent rods and pistons for cost of shipping. you can have a crank and oil pump too if you wanna pay to ship those. I may have 2 sets of stock rods and pistons i have to check, but yeah you pay shipping and their yours.

JB weld is to advance for me, I am actually going to cut up little strips of duck tape and make them into small balls with the sticky side out. Then put a million of those at all the connecting spots. This way it looks like messy welds. Not the pretty welds that Tim and Abe do.

Just how many connecting rods so you need/want?

Do you just want Mazda rods? or will any con rod do?

Right now I have 3 sets of rods. The first set is from y8s and are bent. The second are a set I just picked up off here for cheap. Then I have the set from my old motor that I plan on pulling. I am thinking I need another 2 or 3 sets, plus a random semi destroyed piston if someone happens to have one of those. I think that I have a 6UL on the way soon, but I am still planning on calling Emilio tomorrow.

Pictures will be posted when I start the build and as it goes along. My welding class starts in a few weeks and I will probably start after I have talked to my teacher about the best way to do it.

I was planning on only going with miata rods, because that is all I know how to get for cheap. If you have any badly bent or damage I will gladly take them. Shoot me a pm.

For the design the plan is the have one rod comming off each U on the 6UL. So that is 6 rods there. Then alternate rods rods up until I get to the height I want. With a piston on top holding the bulb.

Ill check the scrap pile when it is not raining!

Also you want the pistons off the rods?

$20+ shipping for 4 good rods (makes me cry a little), one with an attached chipped piston? You can take comfort in knowing that the pistons chipped due to a poorly tuned power card on a supercharged car.

I have three available. I'm keeping one cause their pretty epically bent. It's going next to the piece of cam I have left when the alternator belt broke and flipped unto the timing belt (no cover) and locked up the motor. Broke the cam in three places. :facepalm:

Those don't look very bent to me. Are you gonna torch them and bend/twist 'em?

People have only been sending me straight rods. I think I have 3 bent rods on the way to me now.

My welding classes start on Saturday, so sometime in February should be when I start.

I am still on the look out for more bent rods if people have them.

I will be taking apart a hond motor that snapped a rod and I am sure the piston looks epic I will let you know when I get it apart. I also have a set of rods and pistons that are not bent but just laying around.

Also have a set and might have another set soon. I'll let you know.
