Want to buy a cheap miata engine for a science experiment. It's ok if it's busted/hole in block/whatever but ideally i'll be in a semi running condition without pieces of shrapnel in the oil passenges. Preferably 1.8 with an intake manifold too but I'll consider anything if it's cheap. And of course "local" (say ~200 miles) prefered so i can pick it up. I'm located in central NJ.
Thanks fellas.

Too bad I'm not local, you could have a complete 1.6L with 200K miles for free. The front pulley came loose but there is no damage to the crank, etc. I'm all for science experiments. If I head that direction in the near future I will let you know... GL

I thought I already asked Bruce, but I'll try again.
I want to make a fuel economy experiment. 2cyl with the old spare GT1544 I have in my attic. I should be able to get ~120rwhp with 800-900cc (half of the 240rwhp/14psi that the original twins made) and nice fuel economy. I have a guy here that should be able to balance the crank with 2 missing pistons/rods and I can grind off the cam lobes that aren't used. Worth a shot if it's 'free'-ish.

I could sacrifice my current '94 1.8 but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, it'd be a shame. Maybe I can find an escort or Kia engine for cheap.

1.6 is fine. Hell, it may be better, less displacement is the idea!
lemme know. 4 hours 1 way isn't too bad for free...it'll be about $100-150 in gas and tolls.

I've got a complete '99 head with cylinder number two having some damage plus a complete '99 intake mani plus throttle ( needs cleaning ).

Trade for stainless FM V2 manifold maybe?
