WTB crank trigger wheel and VR sensor

I want to put together a crank sensor and need some parts, preferably pnp for a 1.6L. If you have it or have any advice, let me know.

I'm going to have to fabricate this crap myself, aren't I...

If anyone has one or knows where I can get one or any easy way to fabricate one (I don't own a welder or lathe or anything cool like that), please let me know.

You could try this approach:hall effect ring
Joe seems to think its plausable, which is good enough for me. Once I take care of some other projects I'm kicking around I'm probably going to give this method a shot.

For you, savington, and anyone else who needs them I should really look into getting them made at work. Our gear machines will make a trigger wheel much more precise than anything a lathe/mill could do.

TrickerZ 11-19-2009 04:49 PM

Let me know curly. I have an email out to Vishnu to see if they'd be willing to make some more or if they have some lying around. A group buy may be in order to whoever can deliver.

Jeff, I'm not sure I'd want to use magnets. Plus, I don't know how accurately I could place them and where I could place them since the pulley is on a damper. I would probably need some sort of trigger wheel anyway. If you take on the project, I'll certainly be following.

Curly, I'll be up for one.

TrickerZ, Vishnu is not far from where I live. Let me know if you need help

I'll talk to the vp of manufacturing, see if it's plausable. Should be cheap. I'd need:

diameter tolerance
# of teeth
thickness
material

TrickerZ 11-19-2009 09:41 PM

not sure of diameter tolerance, shouldn't be a big deal if the sensor is adjustable. tolerance between teeth is more important
36-1 (unless someone can come up with a good reason otherwise)
thickness is probably about 4mm? Anyone who has a wheel, please advise
material is high grade Al

You're planning on making a hub for the wheel to mount to, right? or is that what you meant by diameter tolerance? If you need measurements for that, I can do that this weekend since I have a motor in parts.

Splitime 11-19-2009 09:57 PM

Wait... AL? Don't you want a steel piece for the sensor to pickup?

TrickerZ 11-20-2009 12:04 AM

Yes, my bad. It would need to be steel for the magnetic pickup. For some reason I was thinking VR was not magnetic, but electrically inductive.

Not sure if the measurements are right for our crank pulleys.... but there are generic ones.

Getting the wheel is easy, it's a matter of mounting it that's the problem. A hub needs to be created to attach the wheel to the center of the pulley. DIY sells just a trigger wheel, too. I'm trying to get a bolt on made with no modifications. I'm lazy and don't have the tools to make my own hub and VR sensor bracket.
