Not sure why anyone would want to sell their MR SSK (they're a brilliant upgrade) unless it was to upgrade from the MR standard-height SSK to the MR long/tall-angled SSK (even better than the standard-height SSK).

Quit being a tight-arse, they're on special now so buy one now and support a site-sponsor; once you've installed it, you wont actually care how much it cost because it's a massive upgrade over the OEM shfter (unless yours happens to be one of those rare Aisin 6-speeds that doesn't piss you off every now and then because you can't find reverse or you accidentally change into the wrong higher/lower gear).

You get new shifter boots too with the MR SSK!

People break 6 speeds, or swap back to 5. Figured I'd throw the question out there before I spend as much on a shifter as I'm spending on the transmission, especially since I have most of the rebuild parts already :P. Someone actually is selling one that I would have bought already if it was angled. So I think it's a fair question.

Junkwhale 08-22-2018 11:25 PM

You can always just get Miataroadster's angled extension if it's a short/straight one that's FS: MR-SE-4-A-BR - MiataRoadster shifter extensions - MiataRoadster - High-performance service...and parts for Mazda Miata Roadsters

sixshooter 08-23-2018 11:11 AM

I just did a BMW transmission swap and sold my tall angled 6-speed shifter to Joker. It does happen.

Thanks, I forgot about this

Yep, first thing I did was message someone on here who did a Getrag swap. Exact scenario I was hoping for. :)

Just fyi...

there are plastic inserts on the sides of the ball, i broke those, the oem piece is just solid metal... And the bottom shifter bushing is plastic, cracked that... And it doesnt have a dampener like oem, so it translates varying amounts of shrill drivetrain noises into the cabin (just happened to be a frequency in my ears resonant plateau, and was deafening) and vibration to the selector rods. (Vibrated the set screws off one of them)

Not knocking the product, i have driven a few and they look and feel fantastic, and it's mostly designed very well.

Make sure to order a bronze shifter bushing from 5x racing (iirc) to go with your mr shift kit.

Make sure you actually like a tall shifter and/or an angled. I found I liked neither and like my shifter just a few inches taller than stock, and straight. With the angled shifter I found money shifts to be much easier. I really, really like my Jass STS. I even have enjoyed my two ebay/ralco STS kits. Even had one in my quaife 5 speed. I'd also recommend a Delrin Tip Bushing over the bronze or aluminum.

can you post a picture? cause I've rebuilt a ton of OEM shifters and not a single one was metal

the OEM one is nylon too

sure, Ive had multiple examples of the narrow bushing and wide bushing 6 speeds, all of the shifters Ive seen are all metal.

But the mr shifter bushing is of a different material. I just figured id recommend the bronze ones i havent had an issue with.

Savington 08-25-2018 12:25 AM

Bronze is great if you want to cause internal trans damage.

Just like every other part thumpetto has had issues with, there is one common link: Him.

You are absolutely right. Its all karma, balancing out my wrongdoings.

Im not sure what Ive done to upset you, I am just trying to help people where I can. If that means revealing the potential downsides of certain mods, based on my own experience, thats what I share.

I have steered people towards your turbo kit, you remain a good vendor in my eyes, sorry if something Ive said contradicts that.

18psi 08-25-2018 02:06 AM

The thing you're talking about is the gray ring right? because that's not metal, that's plastic. also the oem lower bushing is nylon, not metal. I'm not sure what part you're talking about.

Savington 08-25-2018 03:03 AM

The OEM lower bushing is white nylon.

cpierr03 08-25-2018 07:16 AM

I've definitely ripped a grey metal bushing out of an NB1 5 speed, I was surprised by it as well. It looks like what thumpetto has pictured, except it's supposed to sit in the turret and not on the shifter (white nylon bushing sat on the shifter).

Savington 08-25-2018 12:18 PM

Grey metal is aluminum, that would be the aftermarket Mazdaspeed bushing. Several companies (5x and others IIRC) sell a bronze version. Miataroadster sells a delrin version.

The OEM one is white nylon.

I mean this in the nicest way possible: The concept of probabilities implies that it is literally impossible for one consumer (you) to have as many issues as you have had with as many good, reputed products as you have purchased. Simply not possible. You seem like a nice guy in person, but you have an uncanny ability to come across as highly, unfairly critical online. Either you are abusing the parts you own without realizing it, or your expectations are outrageously lofty, or you are excessively critical of small failures in excess of what is justifiable based on the scope of said failures, or more than likely a combination of those things.

The net result is that, in my opinion, you shine an unfair negative light onto vendors, likely without intending to.

If you make it to MRLS, bring a pair of earplugs and I'll scare you in Rover.

Im talking about the slots in the side of the shifter fulcrum. Oem is just machined slots, mr has inserts that fit with little pegs into the fulcrum. Bill does sell them separaty, so its not a big deal. Reflecting on this, maybe this is a positive change, as wear is isolated to cheap replaceable parts, instead of the whole shifter.
