Wtb: Rods, cams
I am rebuilding my 1.8 and am looking for some rods. Preferably Carrillo or Pauter.
Also looking for cams for the same motor. Anyone have these sitting in their garage? |
y8s is selling some mtuned rods in classifieds
|
Yea, I saw that. My engine builder is suggesting Carrillo or Pauter. Hate to go against his preferences. I saw some Eagle rods that were pretty inexpensive also.
|
Is your engine builder a miata engine builder? Cause what works on other cars sometimes isn't the best on a miata. Just sayin
|
I am getting a lot of different advice for sure. The guy actually building my motor likes Eagle rods-experience from his drag racing, the "Miata Expert", who actually is very reputable, says if Im racing the car at over 10-12lbs of boost, then he said don't get the Eagles and get Carrillo.
So, who knows. The Egles are $340, the Carrillo's are about $800. Pretty big difference, but its also very expensive and time consuming to rebuild it again. |
Since my name was already dropped....
I can't prove that these rods are equivalent to a $1000 dollar set of Carillo H-Beams, but they've been around a few years and in a few builds and I was confident they would support anything I could throw at a miata motor with a stock set of gears. |
My Eagle H-beams are supporting 300 whp at 25 psi. No reason the M-tuned ones wont either.

18psi is going to be over 300whp soon... on m-tuned rods.
Savington has 290whp on m-tuned rods. Hustler has aprox 300whp on m-tuned rods I have ~275whp on m-tuned rods, and plan to get to 300 soon. Sav, Hustler and i all track our cars. |
Add 2 more to that with M-tuned rods. My buddies David and Michael have track miatas making ~275-300 on M-tuned with no problems at all.
|
Sweet. Sounds like everyone is happy with their rods.. I am just gathering information, and please understand, I am not saying anything bad about the M-Tuned rods. I have only heard good things about them and have ordered other things from them.
So I am just asking, same answer if you wanted to try for 400hp? |
oh I'm definitely happy with my rod:noob:
and the answer is yes |
Come on. Someone has to throw out the obligatory. "yea, but is your girlfriend happy with you rod" joke in here somewhere.
Ok, so any other rods out there for sale? How about cams? |
1.6 or 1.8? There was a guy that was selling some Kelford 256 Turbo Cams I believe if he hasn't sold them already or hasn't took them down.

lol @ an engine builder telling you to put $1300 rods in a 300hp 4-cylinder. There are varying degrees of load in a 300hp car compared to a 1000hp 4-cylinder...you are at the bottom of that range.
