WTB Stock main fan
Mine **** the bed at WSIR today. I need a fan to tide me over until I can get a low-pro setup together. Preferrably cheap, maybe free if you have it just laying around? I'll pay shipping obviously.

I hate the ebay fans. There's a reason SPALs cost as much as they do.
The ebay 12" fan motor could not spin my stock 12" fan blades...dunno what that says, as the ebay fan blades are very very light comparatively, but it's obvious they didn't have tons of juice to be able to...
I know on some setups one ebay 12" 1600CFM was enough without shrouding, on other setups it wasn't. In fact on Newbsauce's radiator it wasn't; and his second 12" fan wired up in parallel, you could tell wasn't blowing as much air. Fortunately it was all he needed.
I'm still just running a stock fan with a slightly smaller core all-aluminum radiator compared (1.5" IIRC) to most here and have no issues dropping the coolant temps when the fans kick on, even without shrouding around the mouth.

Way off topic, but if anything, I'd like to find a higher power motor to swap into the mazda shroud/blade. Or perhaps a better blade to go onto the factor motor/shroud. I'm gonna have to do some research and see if some old car out there had badass fan motors that might can be adapted to work. The local yards have thousands of cars to sift through if I knew what to look for.

I disagree. Spal puts a very powerful motor on their fans compared to the ebay special stuff. Spals pull more current, make more noise, and create a larger pressure differential when running. But theyr'e $$$. Nothing wrong with that, but I prefer to find a cheaper, easier, DIY solution if I can before I shell out the big bucks.

see what i say about the motor not being able to spin the stock fan blade...that says something. I can try the stock 10" fan tonight... I can even take a video.
just kidding, seem like I threw the ebay fan i had away...I am still however using an ebay fan motor and 10" blade without the stock A/C shroud for my A/C fan...no issues.

We fit a quadratic model to estimate the linear, interaction, and quadratic effects of each factor. The quadratic model applied to our factors has the following form:

X1 = distance from radiator (inches)

Like I said, the 10" blade fits perfectly within the OEM A/C shroud. But I'm still using the ebay motor...

I got another idea. I wanna get a set of motors from someone and take them apart.
There's a couple ways to make an electric motor put out more power. One is to double up the leads that go to the brushes. I've done this on a starter before on a high compression V8. Dunno how much of a difference it would make on a smaller scale fan motor though. But I just looked and the main fan's motor is just glued together, so it couldn't be too hard to get apart and have a look. Might be an easy way to mod the factory motor to get some more power out of it. Could possibly add another set of brushes, though that would probably make for a 'too powerful' motor that would be susceptable to overheating... But then again, that's how they make 2 speed fans....
