wtb: Turbo miata, fully sorted
Looking for a turbo miata that is fully sorted. I don't know much about these cars, but I know I like them and just want to drive, don'thave time to wrench.
looking for the SW USA, but I will be flying in and driving home, so must be sorted mechanically. Ideally older that 93. Ideally around 6k. But it wouldhave to be more, for me to get what I want, so lets say 8k. Car will be a 80% track car. I like roadracing, so more of that stuff, the more likely we will have a deal. |
as you can tell, I want it as nice as possible, but body/interior can have their flaws. No bling or stereo stuff please. Take it out and sell it, I don't want it.
|
Where are you located? I have my red turbo 92 that is mechanically excellent and needs nothing, but cosmetically it could be a bit better.
|
i have one that has cooling issues in 90-95+ degree weather.... but everything's complete on it.... just need a bit more tuning on the ECU and you should be set
i'm trying to get rid of it for 5000 or best offer(without stereo system like you requested).... has ACT XT w/ 6 puck FRESH, brand new sportmax 002 +0 16x8 with 205/40/16... T25 off 1g or 2g DSM, megan racing downpipe+manifold, off brand ebay intercooler, Greddy Type-S BOV, Supra 305cc injectors, DNA Manual boost controller, Aeromotive FPR(RR) Wizdom body kit (someone rear ended me so the rear bumper's off, i have 2 stock ones... 1 spare driver side fender, 1 spare driver side door, 2 spare front bumpers(factory) and a bunch more useless parts that i should actually throw on MT.net lol) mine's a 93 by the way.... if you're at all interested i'm located in Orlando, FL....... the car's made it's way right around 90,000-91,000 miles... rarely driven for a few years if you asked me (i got this car back 7 years ago with 60,000 miles already on the car) also if you need pictures PM me and i'll get back to this thread and post as many as i can get for ya |
Mine's a '92...sorted...would I sell it for $8k? Hmmm...
|
^extremely sorted.
|
NAs are cheap and plentiful, and turbocharged NAs are not altogether difficult to find. Well-sorted turbocharged NAs are.
I'd never really thought about it before. Would I sell my car for $8k? I kinda doubt it. In terms of parts cost I might be able to build a replacement for that, but there's a massive investment of time in it. If you were to buy an NA for <$2k with solid, stock mechanicals it could be a real win. Have it shipped to Spring Branch, Texas and pay Bell Engineering to slap one of their turbo kits on, upgrade the cooling system, and otherwise refresh it. While you're at it, throw some money into suspension and tires, and have a real performer. Not sure why you'd specifically want <'93. Personally, my ideal candidate would be a '94 or a '95. 1.8 engine and bigger diff, but still no OBD-II. |

For 10K you can fly in and drive mine home. I'm ready to play with another one.
The thing is, however, I doubt the next project car will be a Miata. Not because I in any way dislike the car (to the contrary, I still love driving it) but I don't think that building the same car again will be as much fun the second time around. The joy is all in the discovery and invention. Well, perhaps I'd do one just to use as a daily driver, but what I really wish, what I dream of at night, is that they would offer the Atom either in kit form or as a bare rolling chassis (no drivetrain). The reason is that I want to put a turbocharged ZX-14 engine into one. |

What about it? :D
Seriously however, reverse can be accomplished in one of two ways. Assuming a direct chain-drive from the output shaft to a sprocket-equipped free-mounted diff, an electric motor (such as a starter motor) which engages a dedicated ring gear mounted on the differential could be used. The costlier (though very sexy) method would be to use either a Quaife Powertec gear drive system or a Quaife CD Axle box, both of which incorporate a reduction gear, reverse gear, and diff all in one: http://www.quaife.co.uk/Quaife-CD-ax...in-driven-cars http://www.quaife.co.uk/Quaife-Power...r-drive-system |
Joe, this power plant right here?
http://www.cycle-logicmotorsports.co...0kit%20web.jpg that is SEX!!!x3 Gamman-I have a car in mind for you. 93 or older, has the 1.8, bigger diff, roll bar, fully sorted, fully restored, for less than $8K...PM me and I'll try to put you in touch. Also, suspension is done, Koni with GC coilovers, RB bar, car is ready for track. |

Caterham:ne:Atom and ZX-12:ne:ZX-14T But after seeing this, I now know what you mean. This would never get tiresome... sequential for the win! |
