WTB: Turbo Miata - Nashville Area
 

Looking for a turbo Miata in the Nashville area. I'd be willing to travel a reasonable distance, up to 200 miles or so. Also, I'd prefer a 94-01. Looking to spend $4k, but can spend a little more for the right car.

Just out of curiosity, how did you decide on that model year range?

I'd rather have a 1.8L and from my research, the NBs get out of my price range after the facelifted '01 model.

I have a 2000 with a FM Stage II set-up. But I can't hit your price range.

^that seems to be the issue around here. The prices of even ratty nasty Miatas has skyrocketed. Not you, but a lot of these here's crush kids think way to highly of their ruined trash.

...$4k for a clean non-turbo 1.8 Miata with the right parts is a good price. Just sayin'.

It's ridiculous around these parts. I tried to by my old NA back (listed for less than I sold it for too), but it was gone before I had that chance. I had a moment of sadness when I saw it out today. Torque, you may have seen it around your area... Attachment 184947

Anyway, I have two non-turbo NBs I'm looking at. Both owned by friends and both with fresh engines. One is a hair above $3k and a bit rough paint-wise, the other is stupid clean and $5k. We shall see which one wins in the end.

Stupid clean and $5k for an NB is a good deal, particularly if it's got a torsen or any other goodies like a rollbar or whatever.

Let's see. It's got 100k on the chassis, 2k on a fresh, professionally-built engine, Boss Frog Double Hoop, new top, new tires, TR Motorsports C3M wheels, Tein springs, Racing Beat axle-back, some JDM steering wheel, and a sweet S2000 push-button start :greddy:

Still sounds like a very decent deal.

Stock with some ARP hardware thrown in as far as I know.

The only mod you listed that's worth anything to a buyer is the built engine, and only if you have the paperwork to back it up. Perhaps the roll bar depending on what the buyer intends to use the car for.

Modifications are worth nothing because they are what you wanted on the car, not what the buyer wants and generally depreciate the value of the car. I believe this is why most people part out the mods and sell the car separate.

However, for people like us who drive our cars aggressively, a $5k NB without a rollbar isn't as good of a deal as a $5k NB WITH a rollbar. That NB would go for around $5k if it were stock, and with the parts that this buyer probably wants it's a better deal.

Also, built engine really should say rebuilt engine, since stock parts.

I would be very leery if he didn't have the receipts, but thankfully he does. I'm fine with the mods. My goal is a nice, clean daily that I can occasionally auto-x and that I don't have to screw around with. I'm supposed to go look at a turbo '97 STO tomorrow for $3300, but it seems sketch and not exactly the most hassle-free car.

Agreed, like I said it depends on the buyer's intended purpose for the car. I would venture to say that for most buyers, the mods are a turn off as you don't know who did the work. Documentation helps, but the more modified the car, the more specific the target audience.

Couldn't agree more. The number of buyers who will pay for the value of your mods is already very low, and for any kind of serious mods, it is SERIOUSLY low; like practically nil! As you said, it is almost always a better ROI to revert back to stock and sell the parts separately. Yet even though I know this, I am always more inclined to buy a 'virgin' car myself so that I can do my own modding, as opposed to buying something that's already 'close' to what I'm aiming for. Stupid when you think about it, but it must just be human nature or something. :dunno:

Is this that one that was claiming some outlandish amount of power? Like 200hp+ or something?

Haha, I doubt it. This one was never listed. Went to check it out today actually and it was even nicer than I expected, so I brought it home. Pretty stoked to be back in the Miata scene! :skid:
