Default Please help me get VVT Working!!!

okay I got a 96 with an 01 motor. It is running competely on 96 electronics. I have the 96 harness, sensors, triggers, cam and crank sensors, etc.

so I need to be able to run the 01 cam sensor for VVT to be able to do its thing. but I can't figure out how to get the car running when I try to hook up the 01 cam sensor.

At first I tried to get the 96 crank trigger and 01 cam sensor to speak the same language, to no avail.

I went and got a 01 crank sensor and trigger wheel, plugged that up and wired in the 01 cam sensor and hit the NB settings button.... Nothing.

So what is the missing link here from being able to hit the NB button? why can't I get the 01 cam sensor talking? any ideas?

Thanks

If you get this working, I will order the adaptronic without any hesitation.

got to get a motor. project has kinda been put on hold for the time being. the timing couldn’t be worse for me. I blow my motor right before we are closing on a house. I am really worried about letting go of any $ before my pending closing date. Plus my wife would probably morph into a female version of the incredible hulk for the same reason if I mention letting go of any money right now. But on the other hand, I don’t want to be one of those guys with the hot rod on jack stands for years. I’ll figure out a way to get it and stay married soon enough. I'l keep you posted.

Good luck with the closing and aquiring a new motor. Any idea what caused you to go zoom, zoom, boom? Over boost? Too lean? Timing map?

Best of luck, Eric and congrats on the house! There's plenty of time for racing and pissing off the wife just won't do .

If I can help with the rebuild, let me know. You're not terribly far from here. Keep any eye on ebay as well. I've seen a number of 01+ engines coming out of wrecked cars in FL for $500 lately.

your talking about getting a NA running with VVT? or keeping your wife happy?

if the VVT, then the main thing is you need to run the 01+ trigger wheel, crank and cam sensors. and settup the triggering like an NB. if you have a PNP harness for the NA then cut and rewire the triggers wiring appropriately.

and here is the biggie that took me forever to figure out. the 96-97 crank sensor is not powered. it has two signals (V-, V+) and a ground. the 99+ crank sensor has power, ground, and signal. so you need to run power to the sensor. it wont work otherwise.

Well I spoke too soon. I had it running with 01 sensors. so I assumed I would get the VVT working. turns out I didn't. I had to clock the trigger angle to like 30 for it to cranks, and small timing changes would make major actual differences. the trigger wheel was not flipped, I checked that. and I checked the mechaical timing. all that was right. I don't get it, so I have pretty much given up on adaptronics doing VVT in my NA.
