Also I had to bow out of the autocross today. I was approaching 3+ days with no sleep and didn't feel safe behind the wheel of the car, so rather than take a chance I decided not to go today. I'd be angry, but that is insomnia for yah, just gotta accept it and move on.

Do none of the sleeping pills not work for you?
I hate pills (ironic, since I'm in the pharmaceutical industry ) and also have insomnia from time to time, but there are a buttload of things out these days to help.
Heck, you can even try some of the herbal/non-chemical remedies.

Just sayin.

Good call not driving though. Not worth it.

I've tried many different things and none have worked. Tried the natural/herbal route and the full prescription strength pills as well. Had multiple sleep studies done with no conclusive result other than higher than normal brain activity and an active metabolism(3-5k BMR).

The ones that did work left me feeling like **** the rest of the day and so they really were not worth it.

The only thing that did work, several years ago, is currently only legal in CO, but the legal ramification of losing my business aren't worth the benefits.

I find it hard to sleep ahead of track events sometimes just because I'm excited. Don't know what to tell you.

Really, it isn't a big deal. You live with it for long enough it is just another day. I honestly don't notice it besides the bad days where I don't sleep for around 72 +/- hours. Probably had something to do with the autox days too, I was pretty excited.

Sadly after the autox day, driving the Miata on public roads has been feeling lackluster at best.

I really wish I had a closer track and/or autox events that were less than 2 hours away. There is another autox day in Vegas on the 15th, and the drivers education event at the track is the two days prior. Should fill my lust for driving fast adequately.

As you said Rick, I may need to detune the car a little bit for both autox and track. I finally was able to drive the car with out sliding it all over the place by the end of the day but it was still pretty hair triggerish. The nice thing is that the HP+ pads did pretty damn well throughout the day. Never was found wanting. I did find out how easy it is to lock up the wheels though! Was terrified I flat spotted them the first time I did.

Ever try Lorazepam (Ativan)? Similar calming effect as pot.

I've never wanted to get addicted/chance getting addicted or go through withdrawals of benzos. I've heard good things about Ativan but some pretty gnarly things about it as well(mostly how easy it is to get physically addicted when trying to stop using it).

What kind of herbs we talking about? From my understanding there is one in particular that is rather effective at inducing sleep.

Many a year it worked great. I may be one of the few that actually used it for medical purposes. Then I bought a business, and moved to a small town where the majority of police funding is drug related(national parks and Southern Utah=a ton of growers...and meth, shitloads of meth) so I didn't want to risk my lively hood.

I know that feel.
Working where I work I'd risk my entire career if I ever touched the stuff.

Bummer guys, but i know the feel as well. I refuse to touch alcohol or pharmaceuticals for my own reasons, despite their legality.

On the plus side, maybe we can have a major reform soon that will change all of this.

Edit: Vlad, i like your sig. I'm can seriously relate to that right now.

I feel ya Jeff sometimes the only way for me to sleep is to stay up just to process all my thoughts. Sometimes I feel like I cant move on to a level of comfort until certain task or ideas have been either thought out or completed.

You get me.

I lay down in bed and my brain goes into hyperdrive. Sleep has never been the issue for me, it is the FALLING asleep that screws me. If I can manage to sleep I am like the dead. You can shake me and I won't wake up. Getting myself to fall asleep though is impossible short of physically killing myself by working out/something physically demanding or staying up for 2-3 days and my body physically making me fall asleep.

I've done, yoga for many years, breathing techniques, set patterns to readjust my internal clock, yadda yadda yadda, my brain knows what I'm trying to do.

If I feel tired or start nodding off, even if it is the middle of the afternoon, I'll go lay down and take a nap. Really have to be aware of what my body is telling me.

On another note. Do you truly need the cruise control pedal and windshield wiper stalk to get cruise to work? I have everything besides that

I have these 2 switches, the controller, the big *** servo, wiring, and the throttle cable.

I wants cruise. I've had 3 surgeries on my right ankle and holding it in one position for an extended period of time causes a lot of pain and stiffness and swelling and ouch. Definitely ouch.

Jeffbucc: First switch in the above image is NB dash switch, not sure it applies to your NA?

turbofan: I've bought cruise control parts 3~4 times now and I still can't get that **** to work in my NB1. I think I've got posts on m.net and mfz about it and I've pretty much given up at this point. You might want to look into the audiovox one the MSM guys like so much.

I put an Audiovox unit into my Plymouth in 1986. Still works great.

One of the shop owners here in town saw my car when I was getting some lunch. Started talking cars and he told me he had a circle track tube frame monster. Tells me to come by his shop if I ever need work done. I asked him if he knew anyone in town that did corner weighting and he said he doesn't advertise it but he can do it. Unfortunately he didn't have time to adjust anything but he gave me some figures with me in the car for future reference.

I thought the tank was 3/4 full but it is more or less full. Little higher than I thought it would be(I weigh 170 lbs) but it doesn't look too shabby. Puts the car at about 2,330lbs without me in it.
