Default Kid Documents Turbo Miata Build

I joined this forum about 10 months ago, I got **** on For the right reasons and have learned a lot. Thank you to the numerous users on this forum that have guided me towards the right direction. Today I am starting to Document/Log my first ever forced induction build.

The Background:
I initially had 3 miatas, all in this order . A 1997 Miata that ended up getting flipped, 1990 miata flipped as well, 1991 miata . I wanted more power from the 1991 Miata. So what do I do? I got on the forum and with limited research and knowledge, asked a good amount of stupid questions and get absolutely toasted. Couple weeks later the 1991 piece of crap was sold. The search was on for a 1.8. Within a month I found a decent 1995 Miata on iaai pop up....

She came home a few weeks later.

She sat through the winter.

A couple months later a big *** rock almost killed me

Tein Flex Z coilovers were purchased off the classifieds

Post coilover install

99 NB restored wheels on

Upgraded Ebay special Dual Core Full Aluminum Radiator

-Second fan not on because it didnt work-

Plan:
Within the next month, as soon as I get more comfortable with megasquirt/Tunerstudio. I am going to hook up aDiy MS2 and an Aem 30-4110 wideband. Drive it around learn basic tuning skills. Pull the motor in the winter. Replace front main seal, rear main seal, cam angle sensor o-ring, etc. Plop the motor back in, slowly and precisely install the turbo parts. Base tune, Drive to dyno tuner and that should be that. ... ( This is a highschool project for my automotive independent study class. Shop space and tools will not be a problem).

Go read the How to EBAY Intercooler thread. That one you have is about the worst. IIRC

Default *Update*

Engine has been fully resealed
Front crank seal
Rear Main seal
Cas O ring
Valve cover gasket
Exhaust/Intake Gaskets
--
Acquired FlyinMiata Fm1 Clutch and Resurfaced Stock Flywheel also shaved 5lbs off
3" 304 Stainless Exhaust piping
Question for any of you welders out there, I'm planning on using 308L wire along with C25 gas. I know your not supposed to use this gas but I've seen that its doable but the recommended gas is obviously the Tri-mix. Is it worth shelling out the extra $150+ since I will have no other use for it?

C25 with stainless is a no no. The welds will corrode like a ****.

100 percent argon is another option.

You should trim the tray so that you have room for your 3” DP, particularly since you have a turbo that sits between #2 and #3. Mikel started a thread “what all should I do when my engine is out” that I posted some pics of my cut-and-weld or you can check my album and find them there.

Default WOW

Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic my car is going to be stuck on the school autoshop lift for who the hell knows how long. Hopefully they'll let me back in to take my project home or work in the shop
.
Any suggestions???

I was able to flat tow my miata home from the school autoshop. finally replaced the worn cam in my dads 04 jetta tdi cleared room in the garage for this thing.

Dropped the motor in so I could measure what I had to cut from the shelf.

This is what I trimmed.

1 1/2 cut of wheels later I cut most of the shelf out.

Here is the template to cover up the steering shaft. Will be painting over the trimmed area to prevent rust

Got C25 for the shelf and 100% Argon for Stainless exhaust. More updates on the way

This is a good time to plan out a heat shield for the brake master and putting the proportioning valve on the fender side of the master. That’s also a corner to put an EBC.
