All they wanted was the paperwork that the DMV sent back along with your SB100 paper, and a bill of sale for the engine and tranny. Super nice guy, he didn't pass along his name. I would recommend going to the San Jose CHP. He asked a few questions about the kit, but I think it was for his own benefit. He really liked the car.

You sir, owe me a burrito! The fast blinking is because I replaced the front 1157 bulbs with 194s, which have a lower resistance so the system thinks the bulb is out. And the issue where the front turn signal wasn't working... Well its worth a burrito... The wires for the turn signal coming out of the headlight housing are the same color as the headlight wires. I checked continuity but didn't check that the right bulb was wired to the right plug >.< Took me quite a while this evening to figure that out

Good to hear, I'll definitely go there. Do you have a build thread?

I'm a bit confused. I've got a stack of paper from the DMV, and a spcns number that they got for me from the Sacramento DMV. I haven't called the BAR yet because I wanted to deal with my brake and light first. Does the BAR send you something once you call them and make an appointment?

Also it would seem that SAE marked and DOT marked are not the same thing :( and my headlights are 2 inches too low. Gotta get that figured out

A terrible turn of events to be sure I'll probably be by on Sunday.

Since you have my engine in the car, do I need to make you up a 'bill of sale' to keep things from getting any more confusing than they already are? Also, what 5 speed is in the car right now? I think I left mine in your garage, but if the one in there shifts properly, its probably not mine.

Hmm. It would probably be useful. I'm hoping the other Geoff will be able to tell me if they actually checked the VIN on the oil pan or if they just looked at the car and the bill of sale.

I made up some ghetto brackets out of some aluminum angle to raise the headlights up enough to be at a legal height. I don't like the way it looks and it's not as secure as my original mounts so I'll likely go back after I get inspected (and maybe leave them on for the CHP visit.

They didn't even look at the engine/tranny in the car. Just looked at the bill of sale from the Miata that I bought. He then went back into the office and came out with vin plates. You will need the vin plates first before you can set a BAR appointment. Your 'journey' should look like this:

DMV->Brake and light->CHP->BAR->DMV

As for the lights, what if you temporarily used something like this to get it to the right height:

Cool, I'll definitely get EO2k to write me up a bill of sale then.

I also ordered some 7" headlight buckets from summit so I can put sealed beams in and not worry about the DOT stamp for my inspection. The bigger diameter will also get me over the minimum height with ease as they measure from the center of the bulb. I expect it will look extra silly with the huge headlights, but they only have to work once

I just wanted to say that I think your exocet is awesome and I want one now. It looks like you got a killer deal on the engine. The cylinders cane out really nice, subd for motor updates.

Thanks I can't wait to drive it around legally. I expect it'll be quite a while before I don't have a giant grin on my face just leaving the driveway.

Awesome. No worries about any delay, the bare block is still bolted to the engine stand. I'm lazy/cheap and cordus said he'd lend me his ring filler and rod bolt gauge, so nothings really happening at this point anyways. EO2k has gotta pass smog before I'll feel in a really big rush.

My bottom end is assembled, so I'm done with the filer, stretch gauge, and ring compressor at this point.

And I passed the BAR! Really simple, just looked for PCV and that is it. Didn't care about anything else.
