It has been a long time.

First up, I did a lot of welding and rust repairs. Never used a mig welder in my life so I teached myself ( youtube is a great teacher)

I know it's far from perfect but I see it as a learning project. I will get better in time.

Next up. : Safety!!
Internet is full of crusched / rolled miata's and it scares me how unsafe miata's are ones they land on the roof..

TR lane Roll-Bar GPDWHB Turbo problems.. leaking oil
At first I that my crappy ebay turbo was toasted.. It had +- 6000km (3750miles) on it. Started researching and found a blocked oil port at the compressor side. A tiny piece of gasket was blocking the oil feed to te compressor bearing. So the turbine bearing got all of the oil pressure and leaked.

You can see the black gasket that blocked the oil feed on the left.
I made a AN restrictor oil feed.

porting the return line.

welded 2 reinforced bars for the turbo.
And I made a heat shield for the exhaust header.. It is almost touching the pipes, can this give problems in the future?
Drifting and a small crash..
I went drifting with some friends in the Netherlands (Weert). Had a lot of Fun, it was really cold near freezing temp. Made it extra difficult for the front tires to grip.
Before I went I did the steering rack spacer mod for more angle. I was surprised with the results. It is the best "Cheap" mod I did on the car.

And than I had a small crash, bend my aluminium radiator and destroyed my Fan. We kept on drifting with the Heater turned to max but the car kept overheating after 10-12 min.
Returned home safe, normal driving gave no problems. luckily the outside temp was near freezing.

Decided to upgrade my cooling.
2x 12" Slim Fans and a DIY shroud made of scrap aluminum.
Not perfect but much better then previous setup.
I also installed a bigger thermostat and drilled extra holes.

Building a 3 inch exhaust from downpipe.
3 inch is difficult to fit under a Miata.

Ok, 3 Inch open exhaust is TO LOUD .
Silincer from Simons Turbonett. I hope this will make it quieter.

Fitting the resonator was a difficult task. Clearance is really tight.
Making a cold air box.

Finished product. Intake temps are much lower.
Build myself a Brake booster Brace

Exhaust is still too loud. I will look in to that.

Talking No boost ..... ?

After a full day of drifting at Zolder, I lost almost all of the boost.
I looked for a boost leak, mybe a loos intercooler line or leaking BOV.
Did a pressure test on the intercooler, all OK.
Disconnected the EBC and wired the pressure line direct to the wastegate, still not making the boost I was normally making.

And than I found the solution, The wastegate flapper that I welded a couple of months ago was gone,
No damage to the turbine wheel, I dont have a CAT so it launched itself out of the exhaust .

I was looking online for a replacement part but why buy and wait so long for the part if I can make it myself.

I hope this will hold the boost.

Fixed !!!
Boost is holding Strong,
New rubber for the track days. Federal RS-pro 195/50 r15. LED BAR for night time and replaced a broken lower ball joint.

DIY Fender Brace.

Best way to say goodbye to old tires is by turning them in to clouds.

I read online that the diff will often brake at this weakest spot, so perfect timeto work on by AC Tig welding skills.

Not pretty but it works... I hope

Very cool thread you have here. I love what you've done and the parts that you've used and made, and it's great to see the car abused, broken, and repaired over and over again. Good work!
