Default Ryan's build

Well, thought I would start a build thread....

I had been working on my Laguna blue 94 pretty much stock with SM suspension, big radiator and had a super charger for a year or so.

One day John(ZXTex) calls and says he's selling his Begi GT2560 turbo setup and upgrading. I couldn't pass up. I was planning to drop it on an '03 motor I have had sitting in the garage for the last year. Then ChuckyZ comes along builds a bad *** motor and turns around and sells it....to me. Lucky me! then ZX, convinces me to order an Adapronic to run it all.

Now that I have a bad *** motor and pretty damn nice turbo setup and very capable ecu, I am thinking I want a newer car. I go in search of a 99+ miata that I can hopefully get for about what I have in the 94. Low and behold a friend picks up a loaded (silver w/tan leather, ABS) 2000 out of Austin with a bit of hail damage and in need of new driver side fender. Just so happens I know a few paintess dent repair guys, so no biggie. But, it's an auto with no Torsen. Oh well, price was too good. Not the end of the world, I have ZXTex's old 99 5 speed sitting here, but I will need a Torsen.

Yesterday, same friend that got the 2000 calls and says he found a 2004 rollover mazda speed. Voila, now I have a 6 speed and a Torsen, and some big brakes as a bonus. And the nose, headlights, hood and left fender are all good. I could use this front end on my 2000, tempting! It should also have an oil cooler and some other misc goodies as well. I can't wait to tear into it.

I also picked up a set of Tein Super Street Coilovers from a local dealer for $400, threw on a set of stock springs/shocks for him. Even came with actuators for electronic control module. I think I can grab the control unit for about $250.

I'll post some pics of both cars shortly...a friend is planning to put the mazdaspeed drivetrain in my '94, should make for a capable little track car.

2000 Miata silver/tan
1999 Head Belfab Oversized Valves/Springs

2004 Miata Big Brakes
GT2560 Turbo, Begi Cast Manifold and Downpipe
RX7 550cc Injectors
Adaptronic ECU
Water Injection
CXRacing Intercooler 28x7x2.5 (might swap, bought this when I was still building the 94)
Radiator? Not sure yet...

Tein Super Street Coilovers with Electronic Control
Sway bars? Not sure yet...
6UL 15x8 Wheels
Tires, just used up a set of NT01s, not sure what to go with next time

Ryan has been keeping me informed of all of this as it has progressed and I have been in awe of his good fortune; it is like a planetary alignment or something. I keep telling Ryan he is getting off way too easy with all of this! Not to mention getting that whole Adaptronic crank trigger thing figured out for him in advance :P

He is a good guy though and a fellow racing junkie; he will make an excellent member of the growing San Antonio metro area Turbo Miata gang. There seem to be a few of them here, and I know of at least a couple more that don't post here regularly or at all, not to mention the whole BEGI Ubergang.

The 4.10's made sense for those 17 inch wagon wheels. The 205/45/R17 + 4.10s are within 0.1% of 205/50/R15 + 3.90. So if you want to go big tires the 4.10s could work.

The 6500 rpm redline just makes it seem worse.

Are you positive?

I thought the 6 spd had the 3.9, the 5spd had the 4.10 in the US. Then in 99-2001(I think) had the 4.30, and aussie cars got the 3.6.

3.90 from the factory in a 6-speed except the MSM which has a 4.10.

Yes, I will miss the blue car...I love the color. I'd like to keep both...but my wife would kill me! I'll have to do the old fashioned check on the rear end ratio I guess...

I finally got all the parts pulled off the MSM...will hopefully be putting the torsen, brakes and TEIN setup on the silver car this weekend if my wife gives me the time to do it.

Starting to assemble the motor...waiting on a few small things...water pump, and some turbo plumbing bits...replacement factory ECU(for manual) is on the way...

Wow...so this is the build you were talking about!

Looks like a fantastic start.

+1 for the "sorry you have to let go of the blue car" club...but I guess you have to close one door to open another.

Subscribed.

Car went in for paint today...he said about 10 days and he's painting practically the entire car. I am trying to get motor/turbo ready for when it's back. Working on boomslang harness for adaptronic and it's almost complete. I'll try to get motor pics up tonight...but it is happy hour night so just might not happen!
