Great car...I have seen it in person many times. If I had the space I would buy it. Definitely in great hands and very well modified.

Good luck Jeff.

BUMP. I'll be putting another engine in this car soon and probably getting the rockers fixed as well.

It's piston slap.

I've had alot of interest, including someone who came out to drive the car and would have got it but he couldn't get the loan, but no one has shown any green. I can get a complete engine for $200. I figured I should swap it out myself so people don't worry but there's about $10,000 worth of mods/car here excluding build time. I figured for $5-6k someone would nab it reguardless of the noises. Miata's are not expensive to fix.

I picked up a low miles engine today. Got the block torn down and it looks nice. No ring ridge and a visable crosshatch. -woot- I have a nice set of H-beams and new bearings I could put in. Is anyone interested in this car if it has a built bottom end? The price will obviously reflect the engine replacement but now is the time to speak up if you want anything custom done like a clutch or pistons or w/e. You buy the parts and they go in for free. Nows your chance!

I'm amased how little interest there is. At first I had a bunch of people after it then nothing. So I might as well rebuild it. Maybe that's what's turning people off the car. Once it warms up I can take her out and about to some meets and show it off.

I got the engine out and torn down. #1, #2, and #4 looked great but there was some scoring on the #3 piston. No spun bearings though. Bearings look pretty good. The engine even has a well defined crosshatch on the cylinder walls and a matching VIN. The knocking was actually the crank pully loose. -facepalm- It broke the key and wore out the inside of the pully. Cranks looks ok but I'll have to spec it out. Reguardless, it'll have a nice shiny new engine in it soon. =) Oh and both motor mounts were torn. Looks like the car is getting new mounts, new clutch kit, lightened flywheel, new trans seal, and complete engine gasket set ofcorse.

If someone wants this engine built now is your last chance. I have the H-beams and bearing kit but no pistons. You can have the Hs for $300. Just spring for the pistons and whatever else you want. It'll be going into the car in a few days.

Ha ha...for sure.

The RX8 is boosted, and makes a nice family car. Got a little one now!!! so the back seats work well for me.

Hows the sale going?

Sale? It's been kinda dead. Hard to sell a car with the engine making noise. Hopefully they're all waiting for me to get the new engine in. I found a good used engine (still has crosshatch) and went through it from head to toe, inspected the bearings, put new gaskets/seals in it, bought a new clutch kit and upgraded that to the 8.875" disc, and cleaned/painted it. All black and aluminum now. Should have it in tonight. I almost want to keep it now that it's so pretty but I need to make room for the other build I spoke with you about.

Congrats! Boy or Girl?! Either way I'm sure your excited. Best wishes for you Adam.

Just an update. The block is finished and in the car. I decided to put the head on after the block was in because I wanted to test fit the MX6 clutch. Works like a charm. TONS of pics coming soon.
