Gotcha. Guess I was reading too much into it.

Agreed. I do not want to abolish the gov't (in fact I'd like it to enforce a lot of existing laws much more strictly), just make it cost me less, and be far less intrusive into everyday life - where it makes sense to do so.

I see "poor" people that pay no taxes, yet have things I can not afford. This is where I want to see the cuts. Fewer handouts, less charity, more incentive to work and share the burden.

Since when does wanting government to stop abusing the general welfare and interstate commerce clauses mean we want to abolish the government entirely?

You're simply engaging in question-begging, Joe. You've assumed that if government reduced or removed its regulating hand, things would just go to ****, and therefore anyone who suggests that government is too intrusive isn't being practical or realistic.

To be fair this isn't a completely unreasonable assumption, given the economic events of the last ~10 years.

I read nothing in this thread but the title. And I'm pissed. I drink a gallon of milk a day... that is more fuel than I use... so this is a more pressing issue for me!!!!!!

Wait wait wait....

Come on...haphazardly changing regulations and introducing all kinds of government-backed moral hazards caused by government-enforced incentives and disincentives cannot be compared to actual deregulation.

Claiming the recession is a result of deregulation is a Democratic Party talking point, not a serious economic theory.

That's all fine and well from the standpoint of an academic term-paper, but as a practical matter, we really can't go and dismantle the entire government. It may not be perfect, but it beats anarchy and chaos.

The armchair abolitionists don't seem to acknowledge that fact.
Gotcha; definitely trolling. In other words, you were attempting to point out the ridiculousness of a position I have never seen anyone on this board take.
