Default Charcoal Canister

Can somebody provide a diagram and description of the system related to the charcoal canister? Sometime last summer the nipple on the top of mine broke off, and no kind of glue is working to hold it on. I am looking for the simplest (read: lowest cost including money AND my time) fix for it. Replace the charcoal canister, or remove the system, or modify the system in some way.

Here's something I found on removing it... Hope it helps. http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.p...20&hl=charcoal

Couldn't find a schematic of the system though...

Sweet write up! Looks like that is the easiest thing to do.

Glad I could help... Found it by accident searching for a charcoal canister schematic.

If it's so simple to remove, and it seems to make no difference in performance of anything, including ability to pass smog tests... what is it for?

http://www.familycar.com/CLASSROOM/emission.htm

Basically it traps fuel vapor so that it can be drawn into the engine and burned instead of venting to the atmosphere.

If your state does a visual inspection/emissions testing, it will fail the visual. May not make much of a difference if you only have the smog check.

That's ok, there's no emissions testing in Maine and this car probably wouldn't pass much of anything anyway.

I just looked and the NB's don't have the same setup. At least the VVT NB's

Edit: After I looked at it more and looked at the emissions label on the hood. The NB charcoal canister is not the piece under the hood and only has two hoses, not three out of it

I have tuned it myself mostly, but I plan to head to a dyno soon and get it professionally tweaked. Why? Are you from this area?

Cool, I had no idea there were other miataturbo people anywhere near here. BTW, I moved to Kittery, but haven't updated my location yet so I'm actually closer than Bangor now. Updating now...

Really? I had pulled the bulb back when it was on the stock computer, and never put it back. So using the MS it won't throw any cel's?
