Default Need some help... actually alot...

hi, im new to this site and just bought a half way turbo miata.
i bought it from a good friend of mine thinking i could fix it.
i dont know what i am doing.

i dont have the intercooler hooked up...
i dont have any extra guages hooked up.
i dont know if the dang thing is even tuned.

however, i do know what it is doing.

ill be going, shift into second, get about 3k rpm, and it will sound like its flooding gas, (this could be why im nott getting good gas milage). ill shift into third, it spools up, does the flooding thing, and what not.

so me and a buddy of mine were looking at it yesterday, fyi, never even seen a turbo setup in person up close.
and we noticed its blowing out of the intake thing.
it also sucks in from here....
so its like sucking in and blowing out...
so we started checking the lines. they're all sucking in.
my blowoff valve is obviously not working.
i was wondering if any one know what my problem is.
the guy that did it, has done many turbos before, i trusted him because he's turboed my friends diesel truck, 350z, integra and civics.
soo...

what i really want to know is... what is going on. lol

i would greatlly appreciate any help.
thanks

Wow start by giving us a list of your set up. Also that "thing that sucks and blows"? are you taking about your throttle body? you have to be at least a bit more specific and technical when describing your problem so that the problem can be properly diagnosed.

If you're not familiar with an engine, buy a manual and read it if.

What are you using for engine management?? FPR, and band aids I suppose. BTW the tubes connect to the throttle body, which is in the entrance of the intake manifold. Do you have wideband O2 sensor?? If you dont then get one ASAP!! as you have no idea what your AFRs are. Also how is it that your friend, that built your car and many others has no idea of what is happening to it.

Best thing to do now is take a **** TON of pictures for us. I mean take about 40 pictures and load them into a photo-bucket album so we can see what's going on. It could be something really simple, or you could be totally fucked.

Take pictures of the entire engine bay, the interior, any wiring that's been done. It would be great if you could tell us what YEAR the car is. Find the computer... either under the passenger dash or behind the passenger seat... take pictures of any additional wiring/devices that might be connected to the stock computer... or if there's an aftermarket computer. Take closeups of everything that looks like it might be turbo related, paying special attention to ensuring we can see how each line/hose/tube is routed, and where each end of those lines is going.

In the meantime, I would disconnect the wastegate arm and don't get into boost. The wastegate arm is the small metal arm on top of the turbo that's connected to the small can with a vaccum line on it. Disconnect that arm from the turbo, it's held on by a small C-clip... need a pair of needle-nose pliers to get the C-clip off. Just let the arm hang there, it might rattle a little bit while driving, but won't hurt anything, and might keep you from blowing something up.

Well you shouldve done some research before gettin it, that way you know what you're getting into.

Anyway, I hope there's someone near your area. I wan to say that your ebay FPR took a **** and your timing is not appropriate but that's just a guess since you're saying "youre flodded".

You need to get in contact with you buddy and find out what the mods are so you can get help.

It's Mega Maid sir, she's gone from suck, to blow.

oh and I think you're talking about the vacuum line going to your blow off valve. It will suck and blow, depending on the throttle being opened or closed.

Taking everything off and redoing it, when you have no idea how the turbo system functions is not going to help. If anything it might make it horribly worse. It's obvious that the turbo is installed fine with it's oil feed & drain, otherwise it wouldn't run at all. Maybe it's simply an ECU problem, but you're really going to have find out the name & model of every part in that car.
