Quicky run down. Had a china turbo it failed. Had it taken apart and some peices of metal in the barings. not sure where it came from.

Ordered a new 2560 today.

Want to make sure I won't have crap getting into the turbo.

Thinking.

Flush the pan with mineral spirits and change the oil filter. put new oil in and run the car a few to pump oil out of the oil feed line before hooking it up to the turbo.

Anything else I should be doing. Having my $350 china turbo break pissed me off enough don't need the 2560 doing the same thing.

What's the rest of your setup like? Fuel management? WB? I ask because I'd be more worried about your engine bearings than your new turbo.

MSPNP , LC1 works but not hooked to mspnp. 460cc .

Because I'm more worried about the cause of the failure, not cleaning out the oil. Whatever was ground up to make the metal shavings is still being ground up and/or is still damaged.

Edit: -----ers works too, but I didn't tell you that.

I don't know where the shavings are from...turbo or motor. If someone can tell me how to know I would like to check befor spending the money.

What is the best way to check or find out.

Unfortunately, unless you can identify the material, there isn't a good way to know.

You should cut open your oil filter and inspect it. That will tell you if you have a big problem or not.

Yes.

Drain your oil. Look at your oil. If it is shiny you have a problem.

Do what hornet said and look at filter.

Verify that oil comes out of your oil feed line by leaving it disconnected, put it in a jar and crank the motor. If oil comes out you have pressure. A lot should come out.

And yes, if all this stuff is ok just run some oil or mineral spirits through pan and put on new turbo.

it is magnetic. the shop thinks it came from the turbo but can not verify 100%. they do not think it caused the failure. The bearrings looked to be getting oil and nothing jumps out as to why it failed. Seems like it is just bad luck.

I will cut the filter open and will go over it with a magenet to see if anything is in there. if i find nothing out of the ordinary i will assume it was just a bad turbo. Will still do the other things i mentioned. also I will be putting a guage on the oil feed line to verify I am getting enough oil pressure to feed the turbo.

It appears that the turbo was getting enough oil but without knowing 100% what caused the failure I want to take the extra steps.
