I can have these made and I have a CMM machine available to me to trace the exact profile down to the .0001 and read depths at the same level. The big challenge is to get a gear that is new so we're not reading a worn out piece. If you give me the file I can get an approxiamate qoute. Also stainless probably isn't the best choice. 4340 or any of the chromoly's in that line are what you want. Most stainless are over brittle for this job and will shatter like the stock units.

Please...let's just get these made.
Travis, what we have concluded is that the gears being measured had good OP when pulled and therefore were deemed good. Even though I put 140K on them.
If anyone has a set of new gears willing to donate for the cause, then yes, by all means, lets do it.

I just checked the billet prices on the 4340 and in the approxiamate sizes we need its around 5 bucks a person @ a 10 run. The machining will be a little more expensive but alot more reasonable then what you were qouted before. It would be cheap but I have to use my good machine shop on this. The guy that holds +/- .0015 on a mill, he is rediculous. Get me file, I can get qoute like today, and you guys can decide.

Also I didn't read the other 14 pages before posting. Just read a couple and went to the end and posted. So sorry for the duh statements in my last post.

We will need to run more than 10. At least double that.

Good luck getting the file. I'm done asking.

Is Loki the only one who has it?
I can call him and ask him to send it...haven't seen him around lately, did he get married?

Y8s modeled and sent the file to Loki. So Y8s and Loki should both have it.

Should I start a separate thread to gauge interest to have a better idea for the quantity? To keep the BS out of this thread...

Nice. Now I can build myself one here in the prototype shop & find out it'll cost more to do here than all the other quotes.

Edit: What's an .stp file?

close.

stp is a STEP file. it's similar to an IGES. basically a dumb format with all the geometry but not quite as dumb as an STL file.

Just sent it out for a quote. How much do people WANT to pay for these, or feel they should fairly pay for these? We usually don't mind stocking an item and therefore usually run 100+ of an item when we bring something to market.

I'm getting them quoted here also for 440C and 4340. The 4340 could be coated at an additional cost to reduce friction and reduce wear.

I'll have prices from both shops in a few days.

I would like them to be available for around $175, but would be willing to pay up to $250 if necessary. If they are arranged by a non-vendor on occasional GB status it would save the end users a lot of cash. For example, I take a group buy for 30, build 50, sell them stupid cheap since I won't be making any real profits (I didn't do the work, just stole the model and kicked it to a shop...I'm not going to take money for that). The additional 20 would be made available to late comers and m.net at a slightly higher price to offset my "storage costs" a bit.

Likewise, only I was hoping they would be even cheaper than that, around $100 is what I was hopiong for, although my reasoning may not be sound.
