Default El Cheapo eBay SSQV knock off BOV?

Right, I am down to the final piece before I bolt all this crap on. I know a fair few members here are having success with the imitation greddy BOV's from ebay. I was planning to go the same route but have come across these. Reason I am considering it is they use a weld on flange to mount it to the charge pipes. I would rather use this and eliminate the little piece of hose needed for the greddy as that way it is one less leak, and one less piece of silicon hose I have to buy. Not to mention I think it will look better. Here are a couple of examples of the unit I am thinking of-

This first one has the alum. flange I would need but is clearly built different that the real thing-

SSQV Style Dump Blow Off Valve BOV Complete with Flange on eBay (end time 15-Feb-10 16:10:22 GMT)

This one is cheaper (though straight from china so a bit of a risk) But looks, if the pictures are to be believed, like a direct copy, if not a 5 finger discount from a plant worker. I can get the flange on its own for about £12 or I suppose I could just cut up what it comes with and weld the bastard on.

UNIVERSAL BLOW OFF VALVE BOV SQV SSQV BLACK EVO STI WRX on eBay (end time 06-Mar-10 19:11:19 GMT)

Thoughts?

That second picture is a real HKS ( as far as I can tell, looks just like mine ) So if you really want it, get it.

BOV+2.5" SSQV Flange Pipe For VW PASSAT JETTA GTI GOLF : eBay Motors (item 390145169777 end time Feb-17-10 16:08:44 PST)

I have basically this one (except mine is silver). I would get one that has the flange already attached to the pipe to save yourself some welding. Mine didn't fit in the flange because the O-ring they gave me was too fat, so I just siliconed the **** out of it.

It works, and it's better than compressor surge, but damn is it loud and ricey. By no means would you put this on a "sleeper". It makes a "*****" noise, very high pitched, but it is easier than recirculating if your on the stock ECU. It's kind of fun to be a ricer.

I absolutely HATE the sound of the SSQV as it comes from the factory. However, if you remove the "fin" from the outlet, it actually quiets down by quite a lot. Sounds pretty close to a bosch recirc valve.

Thanks Bond what you have looks like the first one I posted. The little cover goes all the way round and all the way back. On the real thing it is slash cut. I can't imagine there are THAT many people actually manufacturing the things so I would bet it is the same unit. I'll prob just get that one. The second one is clearly a picture of the real thing. Just looks to good to be true, and you know what they say about that.............

I might be trying this if I can escape death by pneumonia today.

I bought one of these, i figured if it was too shitty, i would just get the real deal or a bosch, but the price.. you can argue with. But the flange is aluminum, and if your pipes are steel, you need to get a steel flange, which they have on ebay. Oh, and shich fins are you speaking of? The little 3 way mercedes sign where it discharges?

Yep. They make aftermarket inserts for the valve to change its sound, but any way you slice it, it will still sound like a ******* chirping dog whistle. All it takes is a smallish allen wrench and 10 minutes. At 11psi it is just a steady "pshh"

I have a Fake HKS... It works okay, but I like my fake Greddy Better.

Going to use the Fake Greddy on my setup if I can ever get turbo on the car. Have the HKS Fake on the miata supercharged right now setup as a blow-through config, and it works but I'm just not a big fan of the HKS style. Its HUGE..

Aluminum - GReddy Type S, R, RS/RZ Modular Weld-On Flange Kit : atpturbo.com

Plus with the HKS, its held in with a huge rubber o-ring and 'dammit clip' that took me 45 minutes to get installed. Ended up having to take the valve apart 100% to mount, bought a long pair o needle nose pliers, heated and bent in a vice, then broke the end off..

I got interested in what the different inserts sounded like, so I thought I would search. The purple one is super rice..... who would have thought. I found a video with a japanese chick magically demonstrating all 3 in 30 seconds.

Nothing special about this.... well accept the little bubble things that you write captions.
