Default What turbo kit is this? (Pic inside)

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying this 1996 M-edition Miata, and would like to know 2 things.

#1> what turbo kit does this car have on it? Good/bad kit? I have no idea

#2 Does this Miata still have it's A/C system intact? or have the a/c lines, cooling fan etc....been removed to install the turbo kit?

also can you tell if this car still has its power steering? or has that also been removed.

Help me plz. as I'm in a race against time to buy this car before anyone else does.. Thanks Eric

Nice ninja edit. Do you have any pics of the front of the engine looking down?
The real question you want to be asking is "what sort of engine management is being used".

No cooling fan on the radiator?

Have you even met up with the seller to look over the vehicle?

Edit* Race against time...

You realize you're taking on someone else's giant project right? I'd chill out and really think it over than doing an impulsive purchase.

But, If you have a 2nd car you're keeping and this will be 'your' new project then do what you want

My biggest problem is that the car is 12 hours away across the country and I'm going to either have to buy it sight unseen online, or pass up on what could be a great car, If it has the a/c system parts removed to fit the turbo kit then the car is a no go for me.

The guy who is selling the car doesn't have a clue about it.

Well... it has something aftermarket. No MAF. So that's good.

It has a fan.

OP, what's the price on this thing? Have you considered asking the seller if it has A/C? That's a pretty straightforward question, and if the seller can't answer, then you probably shouldn't buy anything from them.

ask for closer pics of the turbo system.

The heat shield cover is a flyin miata one but the intercooler piping and setup looks custom.

There's a fan. You can see the yellow sticker next to the IC piping. OP, it looks like a well done setup, but without better pictures of the manifold, turbo or steering rack, it's sorta impossible to tell what it is exactly.

Oooh, missed it

OP, would you happen to have a link to the sale?

Okay I'll try my best to get more pictures, I've owned 3 1.6l. miatas in the past, but never a 1.8liter M-edition.

As stupid as this may sound I'm much more hung-up on if the car has a working cold a/c system then the turbo kit part.

The car was traded in an the sale's man didn't even know if it was a supercharger or turbo in the car. It has taken me almost 24 hours to receive 3 pictures from him. He says that the car has an a/c button on the dash (duh) that lights up when you push it in.......................? does the compressor kick on???? does it even have a compressor this guy is a dumb dumb

I'd suggest maybe looking for a car that has working a/c advertised rather than a car with a turbo kit.

please be detailed in your responses kthxbi

Seriously guy, are you not seeing all the red flags? Do people seriously buy cars like this? If so, I really need to get into the used car dealership business.

Might be a track-dog kit. Just based on the over-the-rad intercooler pipes. Heatsheild looks like the FM one though.

In my opinion this car does not have PS or AC based on those pictures. I don't see a power steering pump, and though it's hard to tell, I don't see a compressor either.

The more research I do it does appear that the car has had both the power steering system, and the a/c removed. Why on earth anyone would do that is beyond me. The 2 relay switches that are normally mounted right beside the passenger headlight that control the a/c fan on the radiator are missing, the a/c cooling fan that is usually mounted on the passenger side of the radiator over by the throttle body "appears" to be missing. and looking at the front of the engine block the power steering pump/bracket looks to be missing and the a/c condenser below the missing power steering pump doesn't appear to be there either.

Guys if I could get better pictures I would
If I could get a close up picture of the engine belts and pulleys then I would

It's impossible to get any legitimate information from the seller; he knows less then my 10 year old son does about cars.

I have owned multiple Miata's and multiple turbo'd cars. If I had better pictures I could easily tell if the car had a/c, P/s. or whatever. Like I said it took me 24 hours to get 2 pictures from him. This is the best I can get outta the guy.

If the car wasn't 1,000 miles away from me I would have already gone there to look it over

I came here to say this.

Then this.

No you shouldn't. You do not have the patience for that business.

Seriously OP. You can't buy a car that far away sight unseen and expect a whole lot when the seller knows nothing about the car. You have to go based only on what you can see, and you've shared two poor-quality photos.

Depending on the price and your abilities, it may or may not be a good buy.

12 hours is a long way, so you need to be able to make sure it's worth it. I speak from experience.

Sir I think your spot on with your guess
The sticker on top of the aluminum radiator guard says track dog racing on it. So I now know that at least the intercooler/piping setup is from track dog.

Turbo, turbo manifold, is anyones guess

track dog sells just the cover. I looked on their site and didnt see a similar intercool piping kit to that one. might have missed it tho.
