Default Saab turbo's

Any input on these? They use a t25 apparently, where would I get the output flange to make a down pipe? I presume the normal sources for the manifold. These turbo's go for peanuts and as they were on Saabs they are/were probably well taken care of (as far as used turbo's go at least), here are a couple of examples-

Saab 9000 turbo charger (Garret T25) on eBay (end time 07-Aug-09 23:11:57 BST)

saab 9000 garret t25 turbo from 1997 cse p /n 452053-15 on eBay (end time 23-Jul-09 13:43:46 BST)

I am not thinking of buying either of these specifically, but they do demonstrate what looks to me like a cheap source for turbo's and yet I see no mention of them around here.

So what say you oh gods of the turbo miata? anyone running one now, or run one in the past? Is there something I don't know that makes the sr20 unit better?

I've been running a Saab T-25 for two years .48/.49 spools quick. The exhaust side on mine is 2-3/8 round outlet with a 3 bolt flange any exhaust shop can make this connection for you or you can do like I did and just pick up one off a junk Saab and weld it to your down pipe.

You need to check the turbine inlet to see what the bolt pattern is. The Bell and FM manifolds are either T2 or T3... but most T25 OEM applications that aren't Nissan's or the GT254 in the Protege use a funky proprietary turbine inlet flange, like .48/.49 unit found in all DSM's.

Those things also look tiny... like REALLY SMALL. I don't know of anybody who's made over 200whp on a DSM T25 and those look even smaller.

So much easier and cheaper to stick with the Nissan T25 and a BELL or FM mani/DP combo that fits... you can do all 3 pieces for under $500 if you're quick in the classifieds. Good condition OEM T25's from Nissan red/blacktops go for $100-$150 all day long at sr20forum.com.

Pretty much all Saab turbos are either 200 or 230 hp with either 2.0or 2.3 liter engines, not respectively, runnning 5-7 psi. So they do have bigger engines, but they're also running low psi. Good turbos with great spool but 200hp on either miata engine is going to be towards the end of their efficiency.

That is the exact turbo Im going to be running,I made a flange on my CNC lathe for it,using mildly modded OEM partsto retain said flange. Thanks for the heads up on spooln and HP data.I hope I can best that Hp mark though,Ive got CRAZY parts in the process of being fabbed up.By the By how did you get that damned snap ring loose to clock it proprly?Ive got a demon set of snap ring pliers w/ a lock and wont budge. Thanks again.
