Default BP lifter shims

I have a list I have compiled over the years from other lists and some I found. I shared this with the guys at Mazda Motorsports a few years back to fill in blanks in their list. Figured it could be useful in the public domain. Feel free to post with additions and we can update the OP.

These are Mazda part numbers for shims that fit the OEM solid lifters in the Mazda BP series engines. NB's to us Miata folk. Most of these come from non-Miatas. I'm sure there are shims from Kia and potentially some Mistubishi to extend this range but I don't know what those numbers are.

Do you know if mazda has stopped producing any of these? I've seen some muttering around the net about not all the shim sizes being available.

If thats the case, its just another reason to consider going SUBs.

Bitchin' Thank you once again Emilio!

Also, that would be my muttering. +1 for Aidan's question. I fed the guys at one of the Mazda dealers a series of part numbers and they told me a bunch of them were NLA. I have a list somewhere stashed in the garage. If that is NOT the case and they were just trying to make my life miserable, I'm all ears.

Here is another thread with even more info. Along with the link to the cheaper Nissan shims and part numbers for their sizes.

Very timely, just as i start my engine build. I'll be able to get my valve clearances spot on now.

Quality post, thanks.

Mods, delete this post and fold my list into the one linked in Shueinds post ( https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...arances-77716/)

These are the only numbers missing from the list in the other thread

So we recently had the need for BP lifter shims that were thicker than the 3.750mm available from Mazda. For reference, they are generically "27mm" (26.95 actual).
Did a google search and found this vendor Flat Shims
Chris@precisionshims.com.au
http://www.precisionshims.com.au/
(03) 9723-0199

They offer thicknesses from 2.0mm all the way out to 4.5mm. That's thick enough to cut 1 ~1.5mm off the base circle to gain it back as lift.

This bit copied from the older lifter shim thread

Default Current Mazda shim listing - 4/5/17

FYI, my Mazda dealer sent me the following as the entire current list of 99-05 shims in the parts catalog. Quite a short list considering the past;

[Current as of 4/5/17]

Z5Y1-12-541 > 2.750MM
Z5Y2-12-541 > 2.800MM
Z5Y3-12-541 > 2.850MM
Z5Y4-12-541 > 2.900MM
Z5Y5-12-541 > 2.950MM
Z5Y6-12-541 > 3.000MM
Z502-12-545 > 3.052MM
Z502-12-552 > 3.100MM
Z502-12-558 > 3.148MM
Z502-12-565 > 3.196MM
Z502-12-573 > 3.252MM
Z502-12-579 > 3.300MM
Z502-12-586 > 3.348MM
Z502-12-593 > 3.396MM

Luckily, what I needed was in the list. Also, looking at the Nissin 27mm list it looks like the list is becoming increments of 0.050 [.0019"] which sucks as it takes up pretty much the tolerance.

Actually, looking at the Mazda list it's the same way.
