knock knock, 1.8 build time!
So long story short, after a couple of fun boosted months, I spun a rod bearing...
Most likely this is do a mix of a 115k mile motor that'd never been broken into, a subpar tune, and a broken PCV valve causing crankcase pressure and leaks.
The only reasonable thing to do is to build another motor to handle more boost!
Thanks to a ridiculous amount of peer pressure from shuiend and schuyler, I picked up a 1.8, sold my 1.6 mani and dp to a lucky mturbo.net user, and bought schuylers "baller" tubular t25 manifold. He is going with a mkturbo setup.
My goal isnt crazy high hp, but id like 15psi
thats right at the top end of my sr20 turbo
I want to build it myself because I like that stuff, and want to learn as much as possible. Keep in mind I'm doing this on a college budget.
The plan is
-full acl bearings
-oem pistons
-ebay rods with arp2000 studs
-all new gaskets seals etc.
-new rings (undecided on brand)
-Apr head studs
-coolant reroute
-new rings (undecided on brand)
-arp head studs
I recently acquired a yellow clutchnet setup, pressure plate rated to 300tq, disk rated to 215 ; ( also have an f1 lightweight flywheel.
I am trying to sell those, but may end up upgrading the disk and rolling with the setup (see classifieds)
I've been doing a bunch of research, and am planning on weight matching all pistons and rods at home. Seems doable!
Will have the head checked for warpage, and the block vatted.
I hope to run the car at a good bit if autox, and trackdays in the future.
Thanks in advance!!

Ive been calling around, looks like I can get the block and head all vatted, and the crank balanced for around 150. If I get crank balanced, and match pistons and rods myself, should be good to go. Mazda wanted 350 bucks for rings alone, so will definitely not be getting them from there!
Those wiseco nprs wil fit oem pistons right??
