Think about how ridiculous that is. The quality of that job would be superb.

Do it right.

Possible maybe. Quality no. Why are you just replacing the rod bearings anyways?

Sure you can do it, just be prepared to do it again and again and eventually you'll have to get a dremel to polish the crank for your next set of bearings.... if you hadn't already tore the crap out of the piston and other stuff while it was jack-slapping the head.

Seriously - don't do it. Yes you can get them in, but it'll **** up in short time. Please dont ask me how I know

This is starting to make sense now https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-performance-56/96-miata-1-8-sounds-like-rod-knock-but-no-sound-while-driving-gas-49380/
If you did spin a bearing you're going to need more than just new bearings. Pull the motor and have someone that knows what they are doing take a look at it before you end up breaking something else

I'm struggling to think of a time where I've heard a worse idea. Oh yeah, NOS energy drink in your gas tank.
Seriously though, if you spun a bearing, and you look at that rod journal/big end of the rod, it should be very obvious why this won't work. Most of the times that I've seen a spun bearing, it leaves behind nothing but metal shavings and destruction.

As all these guys have said, this is a terrible idea. Almost as bad as not posting an intro thread. If you spun a bearing your crank will have to be, at the very least polished if not cut to remove any galling. In either case you will have to check bearing clearances again. This type of critical work is not going to be easy laying on the ground under the car. Bite the bullet and pull the motor. Trying to save time in this manner will, almost certainly, cost you in the long run.

Do it the right way once or do it over and over again till you get frustrated and sell the car cheap with a blown motor. Your choice.

Sell some stuff off the motor for parts and just buy another one. They're cheap enough for 1.6s

well took out the tranny and the flywheel bolts were finger tight... ALL of them... lol. I said what the hell and tried to take off the oil pan any way and uhhh NO.. lol we just pulled the eng and it was fine

its a white 96 with a 1.8 with a borla exhaust enkie wheels jackson racing headers tokiko adjustable struts and springs hard dog roll bar and its a 9/10 inside and out.

picked it up for 500 cause he thought it was a rod knock.. lol

And yes seeing now how much of a bitch it woud be to replace them while in the car would be impossible.

still learning about miatas but have built many 240s so bear with me, and so far its easier to work on the miatas.

Damn I hate the FNG process

Hey ricky racoon nice of you to comment. yea I made a stupid comment but diagnosed the problem quickly once I got under the car. I simply asked the question right before starting the project, and later admitted it was a stupid question... however I fixed it and got one hell of a deal. like I said before Ive replaced them in a 240 eng in car and wasnt bad. so to me it wasnt that stupid of a question unless you have worked on them before. BUT like I SAID earlier I have never touched one and am a on this forum so sometimes it happens. Ive had it for a day and have already fixed it and have it running again. I didnt just tighten up the bolts I took out the engine performed a rod bearing test, and it was all good. I feel it was a legitimate question that can be askin if you are new to the scene. Ive learned alot cause I was stationed at yokota AB Japan from 01 to 03 got involved in drifting I and and have carried on since. I have owned many front eng RWD japaneese cars and know the basics however it was a toss up and I did some research and never came up with any direct answers, hence my horrible question, so just wanted to see what info was out there thats all.

so thanks any way

Thanks for your support
