Default mazdaspeed miata engine

what is different about a mazdaspeed miata engine over regular 99-00 engine or 01-05 engine?

absolutely nothing, a mazdaspeed miata engine is basically same as 99-00 engine.

Really? I thought it had lower compression, for starters.

its a 99-00 engine with a slightly better intake cam and ports on the drivers side of the block for water/oil.

That's +3whp dyno proven but only if you straighten it out so the logo is perpendicular to the valve cover. Crooked, it robs 2whp. There are several other subtle differences as mentioned like the flange on the oil pan for the turbo oil return.

Thank you for the information guys! Very helpful. That being said since it isnt anything special I may be selling mine and was wondering what you think I should sell it for and where should I advertise it?

The coolant ports in the head are different also. Nothing too serious, but its worth mentioning.

I love seeing ads where people place MSM engines and transmissions for double the price of a non-MSM part based on the fact that its "from a Mazdaspeed". As pointed out, there isn't any real difference. Sure there are rumors of a stronger shot-peened gear in the trans, but no one has had problems with the 6-speed that have been relived by going to a MSM box. Same with the engine- it's a 99/00 engine with a slightly different intake cam that no one has determined if it's worth any power. The only testament to the MSM engine wsa Jareds magic engine that was taking 20+ psi of boost from a T3 turbo....but there is no way to say a 99/00 engine wouldn't have taken the same abuse without a problem.

Though I do wish the turbo valvecover fit on the VVT engines...it is pretty damn cool.

So should I just advertise it for the same price as a regular 99-00 engine plus accessories? It is in perfect running and driving working order with only 25k documented miles and comes with harness, ecu, mazdaspeed gauge cluster and matching immobilizer, turbo and exhaust manifold, complete front mount intercooler, mazdaspeed clutch, pp and flywheel etc... and all tubing etc..., etc... and best part is it starts up right now and runs perfect.

No I would ask 30-50% more than what you can find the same 99-00 motor for with 25k miles. The 30% should cover all the little small cool things that people here mentioned plus your extra's that make it all run if someone wants to swap it into a different car. I would post it on grassroots motorsports someone with a MGB might want it. Or on here since someone would be able to swap it into a non turbo car and make 200whp.

What are you doing with the car? Was it a wreck or are you building something? There is a ton of MSM specific trim bits that fetch top dollar to MSM owners or ricers who want to bling out their NAs. Pics?

I would guess a 1.6 swap. It revs so much freer.

Attached is a pic. It is a 25k Mazdaspeed Miata Engine and someone can come watch it run right now and see that it runs well. Engine is complete with all accessories etc... (Intake, Throttle Body, A/C, Injectors, Mazdaspeed Clutch, Pressure Plate, Flywheel etc...)

Also have the following:

Mazdaspeed Miata Engine Harness

Mazdaspeed Miata ECU

Mazdaspeed Gauge Cluster and Immobilizer

Installed on the engine right now but not neccessarily included is a custom TIG Welded Tubular Manifold and Garrett GT25R Dual Ball Bearing Turbo with Built In Wastegate

Complete Front Mount Intercooler with HKS Blow off Valve

Complete Custom 3" from Turbo Back Exhaust System

Also Available is the Factory Mazdaspeed Miata Exhaust Manifold and Turbo and Downpipe and Factory Front Mount Intercooler, Recirculatory Valve and all Intercooler Piping

Basically I have everything someone would want to convert their non-turbo miata to turbo Mazdaspeed Miata Specs or Better.

Also have a Greddy e-Manage ECU with all accessories as well

Anyways I have lots more performance stuff available including a complete other turbo kit for sale but wanted to get an idea of the market and where and how much to sell everything for. I really appreciate everyones help here. You guys have been extremely helpful! I look forward to more helpful information!

That thumbnail doesn't look like the gear is sitting in an MSM chassis so the rest of the story makes more sense. History of the transplant?

Its an 01 Miata with a Hardtop that is pretty clean and 100% straight with about 80k on chassis but needs an ECU to get the full potential out of the running gear thats in it. Thinking of turning the car into an SCCA STU Race car if I can get the parts that it came with, that I will not need for STU, sold so I can use that to fund the STU build. Any ideas what I might be able to get for everything I listed in the previous post. Theres lots more that I have but the previous list is a good start. I will sell the hardtop too if I go SCCA STU. Otherwise I am going to sell the car as it sits and find something else as a platform for an STU Build.
