XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Started Pre-Load a few minutes ago. I'm kind of fired up about it. Anybody else play the original as a kid (or as an already grizzled old man in Joe P's case)?
BTW, I downloaded the original XCOM: UFO Defense last week and played about 2 hours of it before giving up. It is painfully terrible by modern standards. The mission controls are maliciously unintuitive, there is no tutorial of any kind, and none of the on screen buttons have hover-over explanations or titles on them, so you have to just click on things to figure out what they are. The visibility models are infuriating, especially with any elevation change. Research and construction of bases and units takes weeks of game time, while you're playing missions every other day, meaning you get nearly nothing for the trouble of beating missions to keep you excited about playing... other than more missions. Overall it was a disappointing rediscovery of a game I remember being exceptional in ~1995...

I played the original way back in high school and thought it was great. I tried to play it again a few months ago, but the controls just don't work all that well. Lots of mouse lag, control lag in general. Messed with it for a bit to try to make it work, but just wasn't worth it.
I'm looking forward to the new one, but I need to finish up Borderlands 2 first. Too much work and was just at the track all weekend.
