HR101, I don't think there is a difference in the steering rack between a 1.6 and 1.8. The FM method should work just fine.

Just loop the lines, I've done it to 1.6 cars and 1.8 cars.

I would play with; power steering, delete, remove.....all on m.net. Tons and tons and shitloads of threads about it.

Oscar. I did the line in the Red. Your next post asked if you needed to do the blue... One said yes. I have a 1.6 rack. How much of a PITA was it to loop the blue and what did you have to do?

it wasn't all that bad. I removed the bellypan and crawled under the car. Those lines or just above the chassis brace. I ended up cutting the hard lines a few inches from the fittings and clamped some hoses on the end that I had laying around. Just don't get PS fluid in your face like I did...

lol, do you really need to loop the blue lines? there is no extra fluid traveling... power steering pump is gone...

i would loop'em. i drove mine with them open for about ten minutes because i forgot i hadn't done it yet, and it was reasonably different feeling. stiffer when not looped.

didn't take me too long. it really isn't a big deal. just cut a couple lengths of hose and tighten down a couple clamps. 15 minutes?

Do you need to loop the lines if you completely drain the system? And is there any danger in draining the system because of the piston?
