Default Cop....

So like, I cooked a coil today. My get out of jail free card (it *was* my spare. Now I don't have one!)....

I know a lot of folks run "some sort of toyota coil on plug" - but all the ones I've seen are like the miata ones, one coil for two cylenders - but all the ones I've seen in pics on this board are individual.

Where do I find these? I've heard people getting into it for like $50, if I could do that, especially ultra quick (no drivey till I fixey), I'd be super greatful.

Any hints on what to use and how to use it, and I'll be your best friend or something. Thanks!
-Abe.

Ok Abe, time to help you out. Go out and get either of these 2:(attached pic) and the thing is you need to get the 4 connector plugs which for what I read in past posts was the real hassle.

Hit me with your questions. I have additional pics. You can also email me at: rfernandez@codetel.net.do at any time you need. Even though we're both very far away from each other I can check about the connectors (since they are rather small and I had no problem finding them) and UPS them to you.

I'll start looking on ebay. The coils are for 2000 and newer Corollas and I think Camrys.

I had to pay through the nose for mines locally but I think you can get them for around $70 all.

Indeed, many thanks! So it looks like you're getting two "sets" of coils - they make very similar ones (in sets of three) for their V-6's.

I'll get digging, and thanks for all the help - knowing too much is better than knowing too little. And COP all I know is... I couldn't find it in the first few pages of posts. :-P

I don't know what's different about that part number of coil besides mounting tab and ribs on the shaft but it might work.

Uh oh, now I'm getting desperate/silly. I imagine this is the same coil from the new miatas.... But that doesn't mean it'll fit.

Let me know if you want me to try to get you the connectors; one thing though, all local stores already closed and won't open till the day after tomorrow. Sorry man.

I also see that your car is a 2000, so we're going to need the input from someone with a similar one. I know in my case it was as simple as could be. Just the fact that I was able to do it on my own should tell you that! :gay:

BTW, you already have your car's wiring diagram right?

That's what I thought, but then it's really 19/coil + 5.50 shipping per ends up being ~25/coil or $100.

Still not terrible, but... :-)

I don't have the salvage yards here on speed dial. :-( Have to bug my buddy if he knows which are good.

I'll let you in on a secret. I paid $200 for mine down here.

Abe, don't forget you also need those 4 connectors. The thing is the date doesn't help at all.

Sorry man

Just checked the fleabay page. You can just send the vendor a much lower amount. If you don't get them then on to some others.

Abe, contact that guy first. He's trying to sell each individually. If I were you I would make him a $60 offer for all 4 and only for the 4 as a group. You don't do anything with just one.

No, it was awesome. Flashed the rom, and had a weird issue where it left one coil high after one of the reboots.

Turns out, I think, that it's cause I didn't select "first spark output" or some such drivel. I think. Anyway, the fan stopped working, and while testing that, I smelled burning.

Oh, and he already sold three of the coils, only one left. I could try to piece together a set of 4 from a few singles and doubles, but... I dunno. Just waiting, I guess. Maybe I can find a junkyard.
<edit>
Oh, I burned my first coil because of inverted spark. But I had a spare. Now, I toasted my spare. FM will sell me a set for $100. Then I'll have another spare. :-) But I'd rather do COP than that.
