Coolant re-route. Video
As Im still in the early stages of my built, Ive been considering what projects should I do while all my parts are still being made. With that said Ive done some research abou the coolant re-routes. While doing so I came across with this video in youtube, to my humble knowledge it seems to be a good one since I like to see how things fit/look etc.
To my understanding the mixing manifold is blocked with the spacer and the KIA thermostat is used in the back to route the the coolant plumbing around the Intake manifold.
I have a few questions, that I sure have been answered before but I only have internet at work so I only have so much time to research, so help me out. What happens to the heater hoses??
Also any comments are more than welcome

I did this exact thing, adapted to the 1.6L of course.
Running MS makes it easier since you only have to run wires for one of the sensors...the two wire ECU sensor which will now be on the front of the motor.
The single wire that goes to the back I busted the plastic on to make a little more space, leaving the brass body as a plug.
I think I documented what hoses and crap I used somewhere. If not I've got pics at home.
EDIT: Yep, can see at least one on the second page of my build thread....it's the important front kinked one.

The other hose in the back is just straight with a 90* bend, cut to length. They also make the metal center section pipe with a 90* already in it, so then you can just use a straight piece of hose in the back.

I'll have to watch those more carefully. It's painfully slow, but the parts list would be nice to have.

WARNING The 2001 cars have a gasket which starves the front of the head.... to get flow to the rear. Using the 2001 gasket with the reroute will likely cook and destroy your motor.

I'm an NA guy so be nice Where and what is this "gasket" ? Can it be added to a 2000 head?

Ok well my spacer and Kia housing are on it's way. I plan to drill an tap the spacer for the heater inlet, however I want to put a freeze plug in the front. In that case where should the heater return go or should I just use the housing from the back??

The logic is sound so it's certainly a good idea to swap to the early head gasket if adding to an 01-05 but is by no means mandatory. I'll change that opinion when it's proven otherwise.

And I don't know that just cause logically a scalpel will cut my foot just like it cut my hand and my arm and my thigh.... But I'm willing not to do it without some proof of a gain.
The real question isn't which damage might occur, but, is there any gain? So you're going to spend money, add joints to the system, make it harder to work on.... to possible not to put at risk and probably (almost certainly, but again, like you said, we haven't PROVED it) make it run hotter. A bigger radiator or ducting would be a better place to put your money.
My question is - will the newer headgasket work BETTER than the old and a reroute? Quite possibly.
