Downpipe to turbo keeps loosening up
I keep developing an exhaust leak around that area, start getting weird sounds.
I have TD04 turbo, begi downpipe and exhaust.
A few days ago I had new wideband bung put it and the exhaust shop tightened everything down well, 2-3 days later and I'm getting the leaking sound again.
Any advice?

Welcome to the club. Incredibly common problem. If you don't have a flex section in the exhaust that can help. Try higher quality connectors. Try high quality spring washers. Try bracing the turbo to the engine block. Try.....
V-band seems to be the only permanent fix. The dozen other things you can do can help but not completely solve the problem.

This really isn't that bad of an idea, if you have room to put a v-band in your DP. Another option.. a very painful and possibly not feasible option is safety wire. That stuff is a serious PITA though. Drill tiny holes through all the bolt heads and then manage to thread and twist all the wire properly without breaking it. Pending you can even reach all of the bolts.

nordlock washers...
i havent used but i hear good things.
my last turbo had a vband welded right onto the exhaust housing.... not from garrett... you could do that. but its tough with an internally gated turbo.

i have a related question -- is it necessary to use studs? Anything wrong with using a bolt? One of my studs broke and i just replaced it with an 8.8 stainless bolt.. am i asking for trouble?
i imagine that for mounting / initial mating it would be easier to use studs but what if you just left one stud and used bolts for remainder?
