I like the NC, and I've seen far more people not treating Solstices like sports cars than I have NC's. I actually see NC's having fun on good roads. I actually see NC's at Auto-x, and NC's actually try to keep up when I try to have fun on the road. Every time without fail I see a solstice I'll pull next to the car and try to inspire some fun they act the same as though they were driving my mom's avalon, even worse is that I doubt they even understand why my car has any business with theirs. I mean, isn't that like buying a Mustang then wondering why the Camaro next to at a stop light keeps reving and looking at you???

yeah. I do a ton of tracking, and I've only seen 1 GM vert out there, one time. I thought the GM verts would be all over the place by now...hell I considered buying one before the miata. I saw a handfull of NC's with r-comps go pretty fast last weekend. I was impressed. I could roll over them pretty hard on corner exit, then they left my 94whp like I was standing still.

That is disappointing about the GM verts. Seems they're doing quite well on professional circuits, however.

whoah there. we talking about MSRP? or are we comparing apple to oranges?

NAs priced at mid 13s back in 1990? (not to mention huge dealer markups for the first 2 years. i remember, cuz i wanted it as my first car, but got a hand-me-down Toyota Cressida instead). calculating for inflation at CPI rate yields about a $21k car. you can still get a base NC for just around $21k.

- as far NC plastic being cheap... eh... i went to 2 of them zoom zoom events, and both times didn't want to get back into my '91 afterwards.

- NC's stayed more true to the orig. NA lines than the NB did. i think we can all attest to that.

beyond above, w/o the 2.3L actually showing up and ppl actually test driving them, this thread is like the special olympics...

GM's arent bad anymore. They are sticking behind their product for 7yrs/100k miles, you cant say that about any of the Japanese automakers. As for the Solstice GXP, it trumped the Porsche Boxster S during runs at VIR. Stock v. Stock. IIRC by a full second or so. So, it cant be all that bad. Now comparing it to a NA or even an NB, sure it isnt as nimble, but with some suspension work it would work out nicely. I mean that is we do too, right. We replace our suspension set ups.

Now, I think it is great that Mazda is upping th ante for the MX5.

There is a PRHT NC in the local showroom, stickered at 31k.
For that money I will take the loaded Solstice GXP and have a little flow left over.

first off **** new anything, let some one else take the depreciation hit. ANd mazdas got a better track record than GM. If i have to choose between something that wont break down and something that will that choice is obvious.

I had an NC press car and drove it hard. I got the feeling that the Miata is head down the same road that the Z went from the 70s to the 80s. The sportscar is being compromised for the touring features. The average buyer wants all the stuff that "we" feel disconnects us from the car. I felt isolated from the NC. More like I was giving it commands and it was executing them vs. me driving the car. I'd recommend the NC to anybody who wanted a sports car, wasn't a hard core "driver" and was only going to own a single new car. If it were a hardcore "driver", I'd tell 'em to buy two used cars- one for commuting and the other for tracking.

Don't these parts go on turbo cars? What do YOU need them for?

It's apples to oranges baby. My 94 loaded c package with hardtop and 70K miles cost me $3800. Aftermarket improvements another $3500. To build a comparable C package would run me at least 25K to 30K. I don't car what NA's used to cost, only what they cost now!

This thread is like the special olympics? If we can't debate to death, theorize or obfuscate something that may or may not ever happen, what else would the internet be good for? Dee,dee, dee!
