Advice needed inside, plz.
So my car needed a running motor 6 months ago.
I've got enough parts to assemble a few engines but I need advice on what to do or what would be the easiest or the most practical choice.
My built 94 motor took a hit, pistons seemed fucked but not as bad as I thought, possible salavagable, rods are fine. Block is the worst, it would need require some work, the cyclinder walls have some major vertical scouring.
The $50 94 motor had LOTS of carbon buildup, but I could still see the cross-hatches. Failed the compression check with it's original head, figured it was the HG. Swapped me 99-00 head on the block, still shitty compression. Drop some oil in the cyclinders and it reads 30psi more on each cyclinder (all sub-100psi) :(
The original 97 motor is fine, had a spun bearing. Block is fine, crank is even ok, its just completely disassembled.
Now heres where you guys will hate me. I sold my turbo kit morely for the money and it has been collecting dust. So I came across a really good local deal on a Fuji IRTB kit. I always have been interested in them so I decided to see what they're all about.
option #1:
Go the cheap route, get new OE rings, put them on the pistons in the 156k motor, call it day.
option #2:
Put new OE rings on the 97 pistons, put it in the 156k block.
option #3:
Get high CR pistons (11:1, 84mm supertech's), put them on my crower rods, new bearings as well, machine work. Sell my 9:1 CR JE pistons
option #4:
Get high CR pistons (11:1, 84mm supertech's), put them on the stock 94 rods, new bearings as well, machine work. Sell the 9:1 JE's and Crower rods to compenstate for money.
My future FI plans for this car are Rotrex. I might do a turbo build on a different miata way down the road but the reliablity factor of the Rotrex is just too tempting. From my understanding (fourm trolling) running high CR pistons with the Rotrex isn't a bad thing. So I could possible be making a dual purpose ITB/Rotrex engine.
Just looking for some advice on this. I'm tired of the car sitting in the driveway collecting pine needles and leaves!
