Not in the north east. In cali or florida maybe where you can pick up a rust free NA for 3k easily. In the north east a really rust free NA is going to be at least 5k if not closer to 8k because there's like 25 of them in the whole north east that are really rust free and stockish.

3k miata
600 plane ticket to pick it up
2500 for suspension
600 for wheels
500 for tires
3k to turbo

close enough.

You are correct this isnt about how much my car may be worth to someone its what I can get out of a miata with 10k. At this point my goal is as I stated earlier to have the miata handle similar to the s2k add some wheels and odds and ends and the rest is motor build. So I think I have enough info at this point to start searching for a base car as well as reading up on how to build when it comes to that stage. As well as keeping a look out on the classifieds here.

Thanks again.

Yku must have caught us in the right mood because we are generally not this helpful to complete noobs. I was actually suprised at the complete lack of flaming or name calling after you said things like a "cheap drop". You got lucky.

This x 100.

Fly south and pick one up.

Rust free Miatas are plentiful in the south, and sell for much less than the rust-belt. I flew down to Texas to pick up my 92, and paid 3700 with a hardtop.

Both of the actual rust free Miatas in the rust belt have >6K price tags on them.

Not really. But the 5 speed is better in every way than the 6 speed except for power handling ability. And if you arent going to build the engine the limited power handling of the 5 speed is of no concern. The 6 speed came in the 99 10AE, the 00 SE, and a large chunk of the 01-05 miatas, BUT the stock LSD in the 03-05 miatas is crap.

This is mostly a personal preference issue; for instance, I don't like the 5speed's feel at all. Nor do I like the ratios.

my old car is about to be for sale if you don't mind bring it across the continent yet again.

All it needs is the hardtop (debatable) and a built motor (overdue) and you can probably make the guy a sweet deal and then buy yourself a plane ticket.

Unfortunately it will blow the budget you set in the first post if you want the hardtop and motor.

Mostly I just want someone to buy it from this dude--he's only had it a year!

GT2876R. Bought it back when the "GT" series was just coming out. At that time, Garrett only had 3 official GT assemblies with the newest aero and CHRA. Then they reassembled some older tech with the new tech and everything got all nuts.

Sticker? Sticker what.

I know with the s2000 superchargers are a little easier to install and are usually more reliable. Is this true for the miata? Is the cost of the supercharger less than the turbo. Or is the money to power ratio not worth it?

I figured, but since I'm not the owner or seller or even aware if there IS a sticker, I can only provide a good guess as to what the dude might want.

And that would be probably just below what your low end of your "total cost" range would be. I sold it to him for 8ish but a) easy was more important than max sale price and b) it's been a year and a coat of orange plasti-dip since then.
