Sorry sir, make sure to capitalize the first letter in a sentence. I'm actually retired from the Marine Corps medically, also you don't "buy" in TSP fund, you just move your money around between funds.

If anyone sold then instead of buying, then they really lost their ***. That would be about as dumb as buying gold right now when it is at the top of it's price cycle. the time to buy gold was four years ago. It's time to sell gold now (not that I would buy a commodity anyway).

50% S fund and 50% L fund here
Don't do gold and don't do the G fund in the TSP. It's no different than buying gov't bonds or a CD. You might as well stick the money in a mattress. At your age (and mine) the G fund makes no sense. Use the handy dandy L plans that already allocate the money based on the expected year of retirement. L2040 for me!

WIN!
You guys act like the 'market' will be worth a **** in 3 or 4 years..
If I had $100,000 cash money, I'd buy (NOT INVEST... Paper promises are worthless) $100,000 in Goooooooooooooooooold...
Actually I'd have to spend a few $k on building my arsenal of automatic weapons, ammo, and a very good fortification for the coming apocalypse. When the end comes, cash will be useless. Weapons and ammo will ensure security, along with my fortifications. Gold, food, and drinking water are whats important for trade and sustainability.

The fun and slutty ones are!
I have to agree with the gold investment. More so on the guns and ammo. I grow my own food and have a well for water, so I am pretty much set. have enough guns and ammo to at least fight off small groups for maybe 6 months. Not that I am paranoid, I just like to be prepared.

Unfortunately the terrain around my house isn't all that difficult to pass, only the fact that it's pretty open and easy to spot people. I've got everything I need except for a good rifle. That's on my list of things to buy one day. Maybe if she **** does hit the fan it will give me time to finish stockpiling ammo. I know I'm pretty good with .22 though, I have probably 15-20 bricks... so about 7,500-10,000 rounds. That and my Remington Nylon 66 (awesome all purpose, reliable rifle) will keep people away well enough for a while.

With it's 14 round capacity and decent rate of fire, I'm not too worried about a miss or two. I'm pretty proficient with it at longer ranges. 200 yards is about the limit to line of sight on my property anyway unless I trim some trees and knock down some hills. The 66 has been firing accurately and reliably since my dad was little when he used it I guess back in the early 60's. For being that old, it looks in very good shape. I guess it's all of the synthetic materials from which it's constructed. No telling how many rounds that thing has gone through, and most probably cheap rounds, and it still fires them as well as any. Hardly any cleaning required and it works well in all environments. I would just about take it over any other gun just for the cheap ammo, and it's reliability, relative small size and light weight, and decent accuracy.

Actually, IMO a .22lr pistol would actually be a very good side arm for closer quarters use. You could easily carry a **** ton of rounds on you at any given time. While its not a very powerful round, pump a magazine of them into someone and watch them continue..
You don't need to buy off the shelf autos either. Last I checked, all parts required to convert an AR15 can legally be purchased and owned. Just don't let the feds catch you with them inside the weapon... Keep em locked up in a nice safe place for that 'just in case' situations.
AR's can still be had for < $500. Brother just picked one up for about $350.00, totally legit too.

To the guy who said he moved his money to the G Fund in the TSP because he lost 25%, we ALL lost money. But you don't pull out at the bottom, you put in more. I'm already back over what I had before the bottom fell out as are most people who continued with their same allocations before the fall. Dollar cost averaging is the key.
