ebay or egay
Well I guess this isn't 100% ebay's fault.. gaypal can be blamed too.
A few weeks ago I bought a set of tires off ebay, they were a steal, and tires are tires. Well I paid for the item with paypal. A few days later I see my paypal payment has been held, and my account is now "limited".. yay. Nothing like spending time completing what can only be best described as a quest from some sort of RPG. I finally completed the list of **** I had to do to fix my account, side quests and all. This was done over about a week long period (my internet pretty much decides to work whenever it feels like it). Well I log on to my email to see a sweet unpaid item case had been opened for the tires. Yay, more **** I have to do now. Apparently the ebay seller figured I was trying to pull some **** so canceled my payment from paypal, instead of waiting for me to fix my account. Whatever that is fine. So I click the option to send payment again, and send payment again, this time via google check out cause gaypal is on my **** list for now. That goes through, life is good. Well today I get an email saying that my tires have shipped. hooooray. Not 10 minutes later I get an email from ebay saying that I got an unpaid item strike because I never sent payment. WTF. So now I have to email the seller, get him to email ebay telling them they are retarded and to remove the strike. Not even worth the money I saved. So now I am level 1000 ****** wizard at ebay and paypal BS.

I swear this forum has more people that hate on ebay/paypal than anywhere else I've been around. Granted this wasn't necessarily your fault, but somehow, someway, you must have had your paypal account "limited" due to lack of verification (I'm just guessing).
I swear by ebay and make 99.9% of my payments with paypal. I know lots of people that never bought even 1 item off ebay, most of them gladly overpay for everything they buy anyway.
It'll all turn out fine, as long as you keep on it and have proof of everything. Just hope the seller is cool and willing to help out. Good luck with it

I do hate eBay, but only because of **** poor sellers, and the influx of chinese crap that make searching for worthwhile parts a PITA, not eBay's fault though, site runs well for me.
Paypal has always worked, and I use it A LOT. Only thing that stinks is superslow turnaround on refunds.
I think things always go smoother when you're verified/have stellar feedback. Any problems I have had were due to understandably wary sellers.

Well I have been using ebay for 5 years with 100% positive feed back. All my accounts on paypal are verified and my shipping address is confirmed. The reason why my account was limited was because my PHONE needed to be verified to make sure it matched my home address. I had already done the whole bank account verification a while ago, so it seemed weird to me that they would need to do this phone thing. Anyways they made me redo everything for my account, verify my bank accounts, change my password, update my shipping address etc... that was fine. But I am currently out of the country and for the phone verification thing I needed to be there to answer the phone, which was impossible since it is a land line and I was thousands of miles away. Luckily a friend had a spare key and did it for me, but it could have been worse.. just a huge hassle.

I had another shitty ebay experience actually. Not really ebays fault. I was selling a laptop, 2 scammers (or maybe one with 2 accounts) bid the price up to like 20000$. Then emailed me saying they were going to send me payment for $25000 (had some dumb excuse why) and that he was going to "trust" me to send him the $5000 back. I reported it to ebay and was just a little pissed cause it was a 7 day auction. Well the next day I look and see I have a sellers fee of like $250. Ebay takes a certain percentage of the sale price, and since they bid up so high, it was huge. Then to top it off, it was automatically taken out of my bank account through paypal. Ebay was happy to refund it, but I was out like $250 for a few weeks.

I think it's possible that there's a higher percentage of idiot kids in the video game auctions than in other less kid-friendly categories of items. I've been on ebay since 1998 and the only real scam I ever had to deal with was a kid "selling" PS2s he didn't actually have. He did it on over 10 auctions, and me and one other guy contacted all the other buyers and got an email list started to deal with the punk. We called the police in the scammer's city and they actually assigned someone in their fraud division to our case. We got all the other scammed buyers to call in and give statements to the same officer. The police went to the kid's house, arrested him and hauled him down to jail. The way I heard it afterwards, the kid was like 14 and his parents were none too thrilled that their kid was engaging in that type of behavior LOL. Our refunds were deposited in our Paypal accounts the very next day.
