Default Streaming internet isht and how to get it?

Living on base we've been relegated to DirecTV and an off-brand internet provider. So far have had good luck with the Satellite signal and the channel selection is way better than I got with ***. But we've got 2mbs download internet, which is bullshit for $42mo. But I digress.

I've got an XBOX 360 and signed up for (then promptly cancelled) Netflix. The selection of streaming movies is crap. They had Ironman1 listed as a "New Release". I'm about to buy a BluRay player with onboard wifi that has all these things installed too.
Anyways, with all the latest set-top internet devices (Roku Boxee), PS3, my Dell PC, XBOX, BluRay player, etc... I'm wondering about all these "INTERNET STREAMING" sites and what they provide.

Netflix, Pandora, Vudu, Hulu, and all the rest of that ****... what are you paying for and what do you get? The websites for these services are ZERO help... I think they intentionally try to confuse you about the content so you have no idea what they really provide, so you sign up just to figure it out. I will never ******* Twitter or watch Youtube from my couch, and we DVR all the TV shows we like. If I want to watch the last few seasons of something, I'll borrow the box set from one of my dork buddies who loves whatever series... so I'm specifically asking about the Movie content of these devices and services.

The DIrecTV on Demand service is a complete bullshit scam that I won't use.

SO, how do I get new release 1080p **** to my TV through my internet connection? NO, I'm not going to steal **** through torrent sites or whatever. I'll pay and don't mind the cost. I just want to sit down with the wife a few times a week after the kids are asleep, push a button or two, and watch the latest ****.

Hmm.

I was all ready to write up a brief primer on how to use uTorrent and connect your PC to the Xbox360 via WMP11 until I got to that last part.

Honestly, that's the only way I know how to do what you're describing. And it is, no joke, how I've been receiving 100% of my "television" content for the past 3 years or so. There's a great site called eztv.it which indexes and catalogs torrents for pretty much every episode of every TV show that there is.

But if you don't want to use Torrent sites, then apart from Netflix, the only way I can think of to legally get access to HD movie content would be to drive to Blockbuster. There are a couple just north of you in Oxnard and Channel Islands Beach. Actually, Blockbuster also has an "On Demand" service now, though it's not Xbox-enabled. Only PCs, mobile phones, and a select few home theater devices: http://www.blockbuster.com/download/devices

(Do people actually watch entire movies on their phone?)

Maybe you could use bittorrent and then mail a dollar to the movie studio every time you watch one?

Netflix is better than you may think. They have tons of releases you can get in mail, and the streaming has a lot of stuff. Due to legality they can't have the newest stuff but they have A LOT of movies and tv shows. You can also search through their stuff online and add to your queue there so you don't have to use the interface on the xbox...

You list basically all the good options. PS3 and Xbox both have new HD movies you can rent/buy... besides that there's not much more you can do.

surfthechannel.com is free and connects to all of the sites you listed for free movies. Works great for TV shows, although the newer ones will usually be better quality from the network site (nbc.com, cbs.com, etc). It's hit and miss whether or not they're good quality, but most are. You can find everything from brand new movies that are still in theaters, to a clip of a teenager doing a burnout in his mom's Civic.

I agree netflix is not to bad. I have the next to cheapest plan (1 dvd at time, and unlimited streaming). For new movies we just use the mail to home option. I can turn in a DVD and have a new one at my house in two days (Drop Off Monday, Watching new DVD Wed.) and the streaming comes in handy for watching older movies.

The streaming "new release" just means new to their streaming service. My GF and I like being out doors but other than jogging, or going to a park we usually just netflix our weekends. Saves money on going to the movie theater.

Having it on my X-box is just a plus. (You can watch the same movie with your friends at the same time using the headset if you want to be ). Comes in real handy for watching TV show seasons.

You can rent booray from netflix also.

I also tend to accidently throw dvd's I like into my computer to if you know what I mean. Better than trying to find it on a torrent.

+1 on netflix, GREAT selection of movies and tv shows. They even have all of the top gear seasons! They DO NOT however have any of the newest releases. But thats what torrents are for =P.

Forgot to mention this, but you got it. It works quite flawlessly too.

Imo if you dont like what netflix has to offer, any of those other "streaming" sites will be a disappointment.

I'm using PlayOn via my PS3 to stream netflix, hulu, YouTube, and many of the popular TV station's streaming data. I've been pretty happy with it. Most of the time the lady and I watch tv series. And since all the episodes for several seasons are available I hardly ever use the mail back blu-rays anymore.
