Intel employees can only buy like 4 per year at the discounted price anyway.

You only get 2 (maybe 3 or 4) processors per year at Intel. And 5 SSDs.

I tried to grow my hair out like that in the early 90s.

Didn't work. It just turns into a giant afro. Worse than this guy's:

I'd have settled for Frank Zappa, but instead I looked like a younger, slightly more hispanic version of Bob Ross.

Not massively faster than my i5-750, and also incompatible with the socket its sitting it, but also not LGA-2011, so I'd need to buy a motherboard which is already obsolete and doesn't support any more RAM than I have now.

But thanks for playing.

I've been happy with Windows 10 on my laptop. It's a 2015 laptop, and shipped with 8.1, which I hated. The Win10 upgrade was the most seamless OS upgrade I've ever been a part of. Everything just works, and the interface is close enough to Windows 7 that I don't really notice a difference. I don't use the tile interface at all.

The laptop has 2 SSD's and boots and shuts down fast. There are occasional boot delays, which I assume are updates being applied. It would be nice to be able to have the option of seeing a scrolling list of checklist items, so you could see what the hell is going on, like on a real computer, but alas not for Windows machines.

The main rig in Portland is Win7x64. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade it to Win10 for freesies in July when I boot it again, but we'll see.

Lame.

I mean, it wasn't the worst thing as sci-fi horror films go, but it wasn't great by any stretch. Basically a more predictable version of Pandorum, with much more cheesy set design and production values.

I'd have been upset if I'd paid money to see it.

It wasn't about the production values, I just find it hard to get excited by the whole "the ship has gone beyond the darkness, and become infected with an eldrich evil which possesses the minds of the crew and turns them all into monsters" thing. It's boring and predictable, like most other horror genres.

Good lighthearted fun. Rubs the same boner as Star Wars in that regard.

Just finished Edge of Tomorrow. Pretty good.

Has anyone mentioned "Alien"? It was a great example of the tech not interfering with a good story. The second movie began to swing more toward tech interjected for the sake of tech, but the original was pretty pure.

Aliens made my list of stereotypical movies which fit the framework I'd laid out (evil corp, hapless puppets, benefit of the masses), though I skimmed over Alien. It's a great movie, but more of a straight horror flick.

(I guess Mother does reveal the "evil corp" plot at the end, but it's kind of a footnote.)

Fancy, expensive bolts:

https://www.vfbolts.com/maxbolt-lp/

MAXBOLT™ LOAD INDICATING FASTENERS
Imagine a world where torque charts and tightening patterns are a thing of the past. A world where you can use any type of tightening tool – hydraulic, electric or a hand wrench and still achieve even and optimal load on your bolted joint. Using the latest technology in load indicating fasteners, you can make this world, your world.

At Valley Forge, we have developed patented technology that will completely change your way of thinking about a bolted joint. Our manufacturing technologies give you the ability to monitor direct load in the fastener while it is in service. This capability will completely revolutionize your application.

We are a quality based, US manufacturer that focuses on solving problems and doing it in a first class manner.

The Maxbolt™ Load Indicating Fastener continuously measures and displays the amount of tension in a bolt or stud.
  • ASTM F-2482 approved Maxbolts™ offer a simple method for accurate joint assembly and is the only product available, for most applications, which will continually monitor clamping force while the fastener is in service.
  • Save time by simply seeing the torque on critical machinery and tightening only the bolts that need to be tightened.
  • Knowing exactly how your bolts are performing under load gives you:
    • Joint integrity
    • Less downtime
    • Safer equipment performance
    • Substantial cost savings

They also have bolts with built-in wireless communication: https://www.vfbolts.com/product/spc4...cating-system/
