Default SEMA 2009 and Las Vegas

Is anybody going to the SEMA show in November? I'll be going Nov 3-5. Aside from the show, what else is there to do in Vegas? I've never been there.

GF and I will be flying in Nov 1, and out on Nov 8. She'll be driving in the Optima Challenge after the show.

So much to do in Vegas, it's hard to know where to start.

They have an indoor shooting range that will let you get good and liquored up, and then shoot uzi's.

Or there's an indoor sky-diving place that's good for an hour. Then there's the finest of all thrill rides - the Big Shot on top of the stratosphere.

And that's before you get into the Booze, woman and gambling that the city has to offer.

Have you booked a room yet?

Avoid Circus Circus, The Tropicana, Luxor and Excalibur.

The Palms is a really nice smaller casino. Awesome beds, and the place is littered with hot woman and stars.

If you have cash, Belagio and the Venetian are good properties too.

Enjoy!

haha Correction: What is there to do for someone under 21 with little money?

I will be staying at the Monte Carlo, but the Bellagio would be fantastic. On Tuesday I will pretty much be at the show all day, then I have Tuesday night and until Wednesday afternoon to do whatever in the city. I think I'll just take a walk down the strip. I read that the old strip might also be worth taking a look-see. Any restaurant recommendations that aren't too expensive? I'll take a look at the Big Shot

I went last year, it was fun. Too many cars, so little time. There is usually a SEMA party. Try to get on with someone who is going. I didn't make the party last year, but I hear it's good.

Monte Carlo isn't bad, you should enjoy it. That's just my .02, I not a baller though, might want to keep asking. Take some money to the show, some vendors have "specials" during the show. I could have saved some serious money if I had bought there.

Another tip:

Make a phony web site about the car industry, with your review as the cover article.
Print it out and bring it to registration for press credentials. All parties will be open to you and you will drink and eat like a king for free.

A buddy of mine will be out there with his custom '32 (Timeless 32 - Custom 1932 Deuce Coupe by Jack's Paint Place).

As to under-21 activities:

- Buffetts a'plenty
- Walking the strip (getting all the pr0n handbills)
- Tour the Ethel-M (Ethel's) chocolate factory in Henderson (East end of Sunset near I-515)
- Helicopter rides
- Rent fully automatic firearms
- Watch other people gamble

- L

sup internet.

Well I'm back already, and thought I'd share my experiences. I am really pissed because I forgot to take the camera, so I was only limited to cell phone pictures. Anyway, the show was incredible. The convention center was humungous, and that's an understatement. Pretty much every national car aftermarket supplier was there. Apparently the whole convention downsized 15% since last year due to costs. The popular car there to display apparently was the GTR. They were everywhere. My favorite cars were the racing GTR and the RX8. Ford is also coming out with a few new concepts, such as the 3.5L 6cyl double turbo with direct injection engine. GM had some new products as well. Unfortunately Mazda was not present this year. I tried to view as much as I could in a day and a half, but I still missed a lot. Also, Las Vegas was pretty interesting, although I really wasn't able to do much. I saw everything from Treasure Island up to the Luxor. I also got to see the TI show and the Bellagio fountains twice. Also, there were these people literally on every intersection corner handing out **** cards to go to strip clubs. I collected a stack and started asking if they wanted to trade haha. They didn't speak English so I felt kind of dumb.

Here we go. I didn't really have time to take many pictures since I had to meet clients. Once again, sorry about not having a real camera. Of all the things to forget Sorry for the incomprehension - it's a little late. This is only a portion of what I have. I will post more when I'm awake.

The most popular display car was definitely not the GTR...The new Camaros outnumbered them at least 3 to 1.

I'll take that Black Ferrari please. It's kinda funny, it looks like you were getting tired of holding up the phone by the end there, they get all shaky.

Yes you are right. You can tell I am a little biased haha. Seriously though, before I went, I thought they were rare and only in Japan. I had never seen one in person. When I went I was shocked to see them displayed all over the place!

Whole row of GTRs:

lol

Also I forgot to mention this, but Garrett is working on a new development called the GTX#r. I guess there is a change in the aerodynamics of the compressor/turbine wheel. Apparently the change in spool speed is almost as much as going from journal bearings to ball bearings. Good news.

Turbonetics didn't impress me as much; they seemed to be focusing a lot on industrial and diesel applications though. I guess they have ceramic ball bearings. I've never heard of a ball bearing failure though Ceramic Ball Bearing Used In Performance Applications

I talked to the guy who owned this GTR - cool guy. I guess he has three coolers in the trunk - 2 air to air (transmission and oil) and the bar underneath is a water to air (oil). Amazing car.

Yes. Lots of noise! They were also test driving a few Ford Focuses. It was kinda funny watching a vette completely destroy the track and then have a little docile car follow at a bumbling pace.

EDIT: Ford Focus, not Fiesta

I was all excited to see NO FLAT BLACK CARS and then the ferrari showed up looking all SEMA 2005. Such a tragedy. I will let the Zonda go since I dont think it even has paint on it.

Also notice that many of the photos that aren't shaky are of women. good show.
