Kidney Stones FTW!
And 500mg Lortab! Today sucks! What sucks more than the pain is the no insurance since I quit work 2 months ago. Emergency room costs with no insurance FTL! Fortunately and kind of unfortunately I only had small sand like stones and passed most of it in the ER. Thats unfortunate because my first time in the ER ever and it wasn't even something that I couldn't have handled myself at home laying in a ball in the floor for free. I guess your health comes first though... just sucks its going to cost me about what I still owe on my school loans. I was also concerned when they told me it could be from diabetes since it runs in my family. That kind of worried me, but my blood work checked out fine. So now aside from a knife in my side I am in good health. Any of you guys had the pleasure of having stones?

The only thing I can see that would have caused them is drinking too much grapefruit juice. Citrus juices are good for preventing stones EXCEPT for grapefruit, which is what I drink the most of. I drink no carbonated drinks, not much coffee and a little tea, so I should be in good shape in that sense. I guess I will just have to start drinking less grapefruit and more water. If I never have to go through this again, that would be very nice. Even though I'm not in much pain, its still an uncomfortable feeling in my abdominal area, much like being very gassy. I guess I will continue to flush myself today with plenty of water.

Actually this season I only ate one batch of my collards, the rest got given away or stolen by family. I don't eat much chocolate, so not that either. I'm still not really sure what caused it being as I eat healthier than most, and only drink fruit juices. Grapefruit is all I can trace it to. Eat and drink unhealthy you get sick, eat and drink healthy and you still get sick. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I have never had kidney stones, but my dad has. He has one of the highest tolerances to pain I have ever seen, but when he had his stones he was on the floor passing out from the pain, and let my at the time 14yr old brother drive him home from work in his lifted ~500hp truck, the one we weren't even allowed to touch...so I don't envy you. I hope to never get them. He has not had them since. (about 18 years ago)

I have a feeling that as stones go, I probably had it pretty good. I would guess it could have been much more painful. But like I said, fortunately mine weren't so much stones and they were fine sand like particles. Enough to make my day pretty damn hellish. I couldn't imagine the pain being much worse though, I was hurting enough to nearly feel faint.

I got rear ended in my truck last year and 2 days later on Thanksgivings Day weekend I drove down to see my folks (about a 10-11 hour drive). An hour or so after we got there I had HORRIBLE back pains that turned out to be a kidney stone. Everything was closed and I didn't want to go to the ER on a holiday weekend. I had no idea what was going on and I thought it was something to do with the accident (maybe it jarred the stone loose - I don't know). Anyway, about 4 days later I passed the stone. It was huge and very jagged. It didn't hurt at all passing it out, just when it initially broke loose or whatever you call it. Was about the size or a large grape seed but very nasty looking.

My two favorite drinks that I drink the most of is cranberry and grapefruit juice. One is great at preventing, the other is good at causing. I guess I will just cut out the grapefruit and keep the rest of my eating and drinking habits up.
