individual taste is too individual for something like this

I don't want a calendar of 12 DIY beater turbo cars

I'd be into like 4 pics per month. I'd be interested in a calendar, btw.

I'm in.

I think a couple cars per month would be ideal. Too many nice cars on here to pick only 12, but then again....maybe that would make it more interesting.

For now this are probably the best I have ATM. Just got a new camera for Christmas but I haven't used it on the miata yet.

I really need to take some new pics, all the photos i have were taken with very poor lighting. This calendar will give me an excuse to do a little magic with lighting.

not to great, im not even going to bother photoshopping them, the florida sun ruined any tonality they could have had.

heres a few photographs I took of my old ducati 851 a while back, I think Im going to try to do some lighting work like this on the miata in a dark parking lot somewhere

Lol, You guys on here will be the ones voting; I was thinking of making it like 25+ or 50+ post in order to vote. What ever the vote brings is what itll be unless there is a significant amount of people that think otherwise.
(IMO only way to keep everyone happy..)

Ill throw together a few templates.. the way I was thinking was we could post up in march give everyone a little time to shoot their cars or what ever once it gets a little warmer out for us NE guys its freezing out also there is snow.
This is how i would like to do it:
Ex:
Febuary or March(not sure which yet) 1-20= You can upload 10 photos a member please MAKE SURE THEYRE MT OWNED CARS. (This will make things alot less complicated) 20-30th of the month Pick 2 out of all the cars listed with a pole.. the winners would be January and Febuary.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Also if your looking for tips for photographing your hwip Basics of photographing cars

My two cents is for:

1. Single car per month

2. More artistic shots like these:

1. agreed, ill have to get a consensus though

2. Kinda agree. I need quality pictures, I dont want no pulled into my driveway and took this bullshit. When you say artistic I believe you are referring to locations, proper composition etc. Your photo will be rejected if it does not have the correct exposure, if it is out of focus, has bad composition, and/or bad location.

3. Good idea but might get really complicated?

For those who arent reading the link up above here is probably the biggest rule in taking photos.
Rule of thirds

You never want to center your subject there are very few exceptions to this rule.
Try and place your subject in any of those boxes but the center.
Ex:

Also a very common mistake is alot of people think a subject like this is centered:

imagine the grid I gave up above... it is in fact not in the centered.

1-2 hours while/after the sun rises and 1-2 before/while the sun sets is ideal for proper lighting. Overcast days are awesome; the darker the shadow of your body the harder the light is; hard light=bad; no shadow=**** as you have soft light. Soft light will pull highlights nicely; hard light will give you lots of glares, reflections, etc... Dont be afraid to get close.
Also please stay away from HDR's for automobiles. (HDR=the Jet up there)

That should be enough info to get some pretty good photos and dont think just because you own a point and shoot you cant take good photos. If you have proper location, proper lighting(ambient light)(aka natural light), use rule of thirds...etc you may come up with better photos than people who own dlsr's (fancyish cameras).

TimR, I hope you do this.

I got the latest SCCA mag last night, and there was a calendar included. The layout was one large pic on the page above the calendar, then 4 smaller pics across the top.

Maybe you should limit the number of pics each user can submit, so that we don't end up with a flood of doppelBanger's pics (don't get me wrong, they are nice). And +1 to each user putting in 12 votes. Maybe assign points so that a top vote is 12 points, a 12th place vote is 1 point, etc?

Last thing, make sure you have hard deadlines on everything. So: have pics submitted by X date, then open up voting and vote closes on X date.

Do it! Need help, let me know. My wife did a cal through shutterfly, the quality was great and the price was manageable, I think $20 for the first cal and $10 each thereafter.
