Since my miata was recently run over, I needed another vehicle. Next thing I know I have a 1999 blue E36 M3. 148k. Got it for 7.2k. Dinan CF intake, Dinan cat-back. It isn't fast, but the sound is intoxicating. It's such a big car compared to my yata.
Here are some pics of it next to my Grandad's 325IC.

Nice looking ride.
A buddy and I went out this weekend. He drank a little too much, so I had to drive his E93 M3. Kind of cool to push the "M" button on the steering wheel, feel the car lower and tighten, and stuff my foot down. Not as fast as my turbo Miata, but you could have a comfortable conversation at 75 with the top down.

Buddy of mine had one, he had lots of money and even he would bitch about the price of parts.
Been a few years so they may have come down but have you priced a good clutch. Also your bushings are probably all trash. I make alot of money at the shop replacing BMW bushings, damn things wear out so fast.
