f'ing monitor died! Need advice
Yup, my computer monitor randomly died today. Worked when I came home this morning around 10am, which is when I powered down the computer, and let the monitor go in power save mod (does so with no signal).
Now at 4pm I go to turn the computer on and nothing...plug the VGA cord into my 2nd computer's monitor and it works fine. Switched the power cords on the good monitor for ***** and giggles, and nothing. FML.
Anyone have some advice on a new one? My current monitor measures 18.xx currently, making it a 19" I believe? So I'd like to go bigger, and stay under $200, preferably $175.
Currently I have LG, any other brands to avoid?

Honestly, I've had decent luck with some pretty off-brand monitors. I bought a pair of 19" HANNS-G LCD monitors for my desk at the office about 5 years ago, and they're still holding up quite nicely. Not a single dead pixel on them.
IMO, there's really no such thing as a "good" brand or a "bad" brand. If you can deal with an LCD, just go to the store and find one that you like looking at. CRTs are getting harder to find- I'm not aware of any local stores that still carry them.

I just bought a Dell 23" 1920x1080 base model flat panel refurb'd from dell (1yr warranty) on eBay for $140 shipped. I've had a dell ultrasharp fp2100 since 2002 and it's still working, and just bought they're 33" for work which is phenomenal. I've also got a 24" LG which IMO is POS - especially compared to the dells.

That's good to hear. Back before our summer turned out to be just another spring, I was looking at portable AC units (HOA doesn't allow window units), and it turns out the off brand name I had never heard of worked great, and once again LG had shitty reviews. I'm never buying another LG product again if I can help it.
Anyone have an opinion on ASUS or ACER? ACER in particular has a 24" LED monitor for $160.
Can't do CRT with my desk anyways, too shallow.

I am a big Samsung fan when it comes to monitors. I had one 20inch that I got 5 years out of before it died. I just picked up a bigger used one to replace it and I bet I get another 3 or 4 years out of it. I would personally go with the Samsung over the Acer's.

$200
Do yourself a favor... heard and seen great things from that particular model. Just happens to be their highest rated and most reviewed monitor...
When I went from 17'' Dell LCD circa 2000ish, to my current Samsung 24'', it was insane! Now I really want a 27''...
