Default Tell me about Time Warner internet please

I can't make heads or tails of their site when it comes to down/upload speeds. Their site says up to 10mps download speeds for standard but road runners own site says 7mps downloads for standard. Plus it looks like I'll have to pay extra to get the same download speeds that I got with optimum and still get slower uploads. Unfortunately it's this or verizon dsl where I just moved. How is timewarner?

I never get the advertised speeds, always lower. During peak hours when a lot of people are home and on line it's a slower. The closest I get to optimal speeds is if I'm at home during a workday, or something like 2 in the morning. One thing about DSL, you are not sharing bandwith so what ever you get is constant.

Oh, overall, I hate TWC. Their prices are too high, they don't have NFL network and probably won't get it, at least twice a year they seem to raise their prices without giving you anything more, or, they add more BS channels that no one watches and charges more. I recently threatened to cancell and they dropped my bill a little. I was about to switch to embark DSL and dish network.

I can't hang a dish out my apartment window in NYC unfortunately so TWC is my only TV choice. I guess I'll also look into Verizons DSL speeds. It'll be annoying to have to deal with two shitty companies though.

Advertized max speeds are a joke. Actual datarate varies with way too many factors to be precisely stated- number of users on your trunk, number of users on your headend, number of users on the whole damn internet...

I've had Roadrunner in Mason Ohio and Carlsbad CA, Adelphia in Maineville OH and North Port FL, and Comcast in Port Charlotte FL. In terms of the internet service, I don't find one to be any better than the other. They tend to be uniformly speedier (both up and down) than your average DSL connection, but nowhere near something like FiOS which, sadly, is available in relatively few places.

In your situation, unless you find the Time Warner guy sodomizing your dog or something, I'd say go with the Bird.

BTW- where abouts in NYC are you? I'll be in lower Manhattan for most of February (at 345 Hudson)

just moved to the upper west side but downtown is only a subway ride away. Give me a PM if you want when you're in town and we could grab a brew or something.

In general, Time Warner sucks ***, like Hustler said. Speed is pathetic, even with the fastest setup, ALWAYS issues with service, but the customer service people are always nice when I call (normally a few times a week, NOT KIDDING). You have to request a credit when you call or they won't do it. We had them come out 4 times last week cause we couldn't get all our channels up stairs...the last time they sent an "expert" who said our house had been wired all wrong and spent 4 hrs getting it right, and now we get all the channels upstairs. "On Demand" is too expensive, and crashes anytime you find something that is worth watching on it (not very often). They also have the volume too low on their signal, so more often than not I have the receiver at about 75% to be able to hear it. I can go on and on, they really do suck. Only reason I have them is they are the only cable-internet provider in our area.

Just switched to AT&T FiOS from TWC. So for $40 less a month I get better cable, better internet and better service.

Awesome for me.....sucks for you.

And I have not had a problem with TimeWarner. The bundled services with a two year agreement keeps my fees lower than a comparable set up with Dish or AT&T. Match that with my homebrew supplier being one of their senior techs, unless the entire neighborhood goes down, I don't experience lasting tech issues.

I've got Windstream DSL and Direct TV for dish and can't complain. My girlfriend has TimeWarner and RoadRunner over at her place, and the channel I always want to watch (usually SPEED or Military) takes a dump during the late night when there is nothing else to do. I know this isn't about TV providers but what the hell. However I do never notice a slowdown with my DSL compared to the girlfriends cable.

TWCs customer service is kinda lousy, and like every 8 to 10 months the internet will go down for a few hours, around here anyways. Although I like the "free hd" and DVR is awesome. So if you have enough skills to fix most of your own problems then go for it. And cable is def faster then DSL.

When I first moved I did the trial Time Warner TURBO. What a crock! There was no difference what so ever in internet speed. Don't pay more for supposid differences. Honestly, I hate Time Warner. There customer service sucks, they try to charge you for everything, and they are pretty expensive on some things(unless you sign your life away to them, then they can give you small breaks in pricing).

JD you don't have much of a choice. If the price isn't that much of a difference then I would go for TW Roadrunner. They have like turbo and regular. Turbo is the same **** that they used to have back in the day, which at the time was regular roadrunner. I think they slowed the speed and made another BS service to rape the consumer. We have them in Tampa. They are called Brighthouse, and they suck. I ditched them and went with Verizon FiOS, immediately after it became available, which is the shiznizzle. My internet is blazingly fast and my tv picture is better in HD and non-HD channels. If you have Verizon DSL, then FiOS may be planned for the area in the future.

For the record, I seldom have issues with my TWC service. I just don't like their prices, and their inability to get NFL network. As far as customer service, I've had very few issues with it.

I'm going to with time warner for now. I can get standard internet and cable/dvr for ~$84/month for the year. If the building does get fios in the future I'll switch.

Yeah, I have to say that my experiences with TW were always pretty good. Which is to say that I never really had to call them for anything- there weren't any problems. I did have occasional outages with Adelphia in Maineville, but I attribute that to living out in the extreme ***-end of nowhere.
